Need ideas on painting a redhead ...

Holla,

Painting up a Rhianna Shieldmaiden right now and my wife has badgered me into going with a redhead, which isn\'t really a bad choice, just ...

A) This is my absolute first human to paint (I\'ve done critters and other whatnots up till now).

B) I ain\'t evah dun no redhead a paintin\'.

So, what would be some good colors to use for a nice redhead? Toss my some GW paint schemes if you don\'t mind as that is what I mostly have now as I slowly trade them out to Valleho paints.

yessir!

Here is a link to Jen Haley\'s site. She has a pretty good tutorial there...

I was also going to refer you to Zaphod\'s gallery. He had a very lovely redhead in there, but it looks like he took down most of all of his pics!

OK for gingernuts this is what I tend to go with.

Base Scab Red, and then work up with varying dgrees of overbrushing throug to very light drybrushing with,

Red Gore
Blood Red
Blazing Orange
Fiery Orange

And then a very dilute glaze of Scab Red just to tone down the orange a bit. I am sure that there are better ways out there but this one works for me.

I did a unit of Dwarf slayers this way for a mate and they came out quite nice. HTH.

For a brown/red/orange/yellowish colour, like THESE guys, start with vermin brown, add in bronzed flesh for the highlights and finally add some bleached bone to the mix for the final highlights.

The girl you are looking for is in the Reaper gallery. I have also done a couple of Dark Age Firestorms with Reddish hair as well as numerous others...

My advice? DONT use red. Unless you are going for a punk look. If you are going for a natural red head look (I don\'t know the GW color names), over a base of white paint the hair a good rust color and highlight with yellow ochre then JUST A TOUCH of white for shine.

my personal favorite is Vallejo Model Color\'s German Orange, and mix in some dark brown-red :)

I use Vallejo So here goes.. Based Flat Brown ( a reddish brown will do) dry brushed Orange brown. Mixed in a bit or (Game Color) Gory Red and (model color) Lemon yellow-Lighten up the orange but no too much. I did about 10 or so layers and never went white or pure yellow.
Just remember red hair is not truely red -like apples- but vereing shades of orange and brown with blondish or copper high lights.
Hope this helped you some.:)

Thanks for the replies everyone, I\'m going to probably sit down here in a bit and mix up a few things and see what I can come up with on this as everyone has some great ideas.

Oh, and welcome to the forums Shei, thanks for commenting.
