Need some colour scheme help

Hi guys!

I\'m currently painting up this fella




And looking for some colour scheme advice. As you can see he is quite brown (and yes I did paint this much before seeing Wind\'s version!). Now the problem I have at the moment is his boots. I cant do them borwn (again), and I want to avoid black as possible because he has black hair. What colour do you think would look good...pink suede? Orange moonboots? I need help please

Ohhh first of all i must say that i hate painting boots and shoes
Then regarding the colour i think a dark green will fits imo.

Perhaps some earthy yellow like snakebite leather or desert yellow? I use graveyard earth a lot as a base for boots, and then highligh using bleached bone. It\'s brown, yes, but it\'s a different shade of brown, so it would work. Or maybe graveyard earth highlighted with desert yellow? haven\'t tried that myself, but it could work.

I\'d go with astonia on this one. It\'d give you a animal skin look to it. Nice looking flesh so far

i\'ve tried graveyard earth , commando caki and bleached bone on some of my minis but i\'m not convincted by the result, i think it\'s a good advice anyway, talking about tones of brown i like more the effect of : scorched brown base, snakebite leather, then sequential highlights with snakebite leather and each time more bleached bone mixed.

how about a white fur? sort of albino looking, bound by dark brown leather straps, possibly scorched brown highlighted through dark flesh.

Keep going, I\'m enjoying all the colour choices so far (and I take it no-one liked the pink suede thing lol)

I reckon you could do it Shaz, you\'re making a good job of the mini so far.

For the fur you\'d just need to bring the colour up from snakebite leather through ivory by adding white until you\'ve got white as a final highlight. A bit like doing blonde hair really.

The straps would be straightforward too, same method using scorched brown & dark flesh.

Not really keen on the pink suede thing lollollollollol

Are you at GD this year? Would have liked to go and meet everyone from CMON but I\'m waiting for surgery on my spine, so maybe next year when I can walk better I dunno, 31 and sounding like an old man already!

I think if the strapping was darker, you\'d get a much clearer contrast between the shades of brown.

i don\'t know what colour you\'re planning for the cloak but similar to the fur on the boots would tie it all together well.

Try not to worry about it looking too brown, I\'ve seen plenty of minis painted almost entirely one colour just by using different shades of it. The simplicity of a very limited palette can be what makes something look great. With a few complimentary colours here & there (like you\'ve already done with the necklace) the different shades end up gelling together really well.

I reckon once you get the metallics done it won\'t look so \'brown\', unless you use bronze :innocent:

Well I\'m trying to make the cloak look like a wolf pelt, so it\'ll be grey and brownish (down the middle). Just painting the axe now, and it is a steel blade, no bronze or brass here thank you very much!

I might give the strapping a try in a darker colour, i can always paint over it again!

Looking good so far Fizl I wish I had seen this thread earlier as I would have suggested doing the fur on his boot tops the same colour as the fur on the cloak assuming that the same wolf donated the fur for both garments. An alternative way of doing white is to use Ghostley/Space Wolf grey as the shade and then just mix white into the shade mix up to pure white this gives a colder looking white IMO.

Last Question before I post him all finished

As you can see he looks like he is in a very heavy snowdrift. I want to know if there is a way to create this look permanently (currently he is just standing in baking powder). I would like to recreate a deep powder snow effect if anyone has any ideas.

He\'s looking really good Shaz, from your PM i figure you\'re happy with how he\'s turned out.

For the snow, there\'s a couple of ways I use:

For an icy crystal effect stick alum powder (from any chemist, it\'s used to treat bedsores etc) onto the base with PVA glue. It forms into crystals and gives a nice effect.

For snow, I use something called Snow-Tex made by DecoArt. You can shape it pretty much how you want to. It takes 4-6 hrs to set properly though.

I\'m curious now, was the snow planned from the start or did you take a severe disliking to his feet? lol

I did want deep snow from the start, but never knew if it was possible to do snow drifts as such. I have put a layer of baking powder on, and will add more when i get back home at the weekend
