Neglect... I thought I'd share my recent works

Hi All

Bumping into Dragonsreach at Salute the other weekend has reminded me how much I have neglected my CMoN account... I even managed to miss a message from Chern Ann regarding getting pics into the 2013 annual, and the deadline has sadly passed... So, in an attempt to resurrect my presence here, I thought I'd post up my recent models.

I have put 5 up so far (and have another couple to add) and they are a mix of commissions and personal projects from about September last year.

Starting with my personal stuff, here is the Knucklehead bust by Forged Monkey: http://www.coolminiornot.com/356205

and my Radagast from GDUK: http://www.coolminiornot.com/355573

And now a couple of Commissions, Vokker Dargu by Studio McVey: http://www.coolminiornot.com/356228
Gilgamesh by Studio McVey: http://www.coolminiornot.com/356229

and the Highland Ranger by Ax Faction: http://www.coolminiornot.com/355010

That's a starter for 10 ;) I'll try and make sure I keep this up to date!

Any critique most appreciated

Hehehe! Thanks Zab! It's the one problem with posting stuff in multiple places - hopefully you won't get too bored!

Nice work Pete, two questions about the McVey dudes, how did you do the leather on the one and the skin on the other?

Love the guy you had at Salute but he doesn't jump out at me, as technically brilliant as he is

Thanks for your kind words guys :)

@Freak: the coat is pretty straight forward really... I first painted it a beige colour (something like commando khaki) and then grabbed 3 or 4 different browns slapped them on the palette and diluted them to my usual milky consistency. Then I splodged (that's a technical term) them all over the coat in lots of overlapping layers. I built this colour up in the shadows for the start of my shading. I then added more shadow in with very thin P3 Coal Black but in such fine glazes none of the blue is really left other than a tint of the brown. I think I also glazed with some p3 Sanguine base too... just to add a bit of variation (I do that a lot - i used those two colours on the flesh of the other dude too). I highlighted with khaki and ivory, and then painted on the nicks etc using a brish with a v good point :)

The skin on the other one was Cadian Fleshtone shaded with Bugmans Glow and highlighted by adding VMC Ivory to the Cadian. I then deepened the shadows with P3 Sanguine Base and Coal Black. I think the scars were screamer pink highlighted with a pale P3 pink, but by that time I was just grabbing suitable colours from the rack without paying too much attention ;)

"Jumping out" I think is the 'problem' with Ivan - although you are right in that he was really a technical piece and a bit of a challenge to myself.... I still like the way he has turned out :p I think some Gilgamesh style scars could have put him over the edge... :D

Lovely work, chief. I saw the SedWars minis on the McVey forums, and then (as now) dargu's coat really jumps out as a nice piece of work, although all of the minis are of a very high standard. Very impressive :)
