hi there.
i am creating a new alien race for 40k. well not new but a race that has only been in books. no models or rules yet. so thats what i want to do.
got some model ideas and basic rules down already

would anyone be interested in helping?

sculpting, rule writing, play testing ect.

if all goes well it may even head for an issue of white dwarf in the future. fingers crossed

So do you have an existing race in mind like Hrud or Lloxatl, or are you trying to decide on one to do?

Did anyone read any of the Niven books about the \"Man Kizen Wars\", race of warrior cats that live within a caste system?Pretty cool stuff. I\'d like to see something like that a race of Warrior like predator catsliving in a caste system based on a matriarcal/ sudo Boshido Samuri system....I could see some pretty interesting pcs. evolving from that. I kind of stuck with me after I read the books and also Jim Starlin, Dreadstar comics from back in the day when Epic mag was still around.

On a somewhat related note, someone at the local Warhammer club mentioned a new official race for 40K. Now I can\'t find anything about that, but they claim they heard it from the new manager of the local GW store. Is this guy just trying to get everyones goat, or is there some truth to this?

As for a new 40K race, we don\'t need a new one, just bring back the Squats! :D

@Gilvan.

Here\'s a quote from the Bell of Lost Souls site which is info directly from GW HQ, told to those who went to the Hobby Day at Nottingham.

\"There will be no new races for the forseeable future. It was said that to support the races they already have is hard enough.\"

Thanks for the info. Figured the guys was talking out his ass.

@DaN - \"Last time we met I was wearing the same outfit, and no-one\'s gonna survive to tell that story.\" :D

Dont the Umbra \"form\" on the trailing warp exausts of ship going through the Warp? They appear to be like mullusks-except large, sperical and obsidian and can change/create defensive form out of shadow.

One of the books goes into their biology-and hints that they are a coming crisis-and perhaps have been far worse in the past.

sounds like they would be more suited to battle fleet gothic,(in modeling terms that is.

Actually..I thought they would have been awesome for Space Hulk-something controlled by dice rolls that screw with both sides as the umbra react to presences on infested ships.

i would like to see them in 40k because they could look quite cool as a nautilus like race, but i would imagine they would have some sort of free jump pack sort of upgrade because i wouldn\'t think they could manufacture vehicles.

I would figure they would have copies of enemyvehicles...like..if an enemy takes a vehicle-you get a weird version of same vehicle.

They were creating things out of darkness.

It was the Xenology book GW brought out a few years ago with Dissections of various Xenos, both well known like an Ork and a Tau Ethereal, and things like Hrud and the Umbra
