New (Better) Job for Me...

On Wednesday I finally got my offer of employment from Edward Jones so I\'m moving up in the world to a full IDA firm (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, insurance, etc...) over the MFDA firm I used to be with (mutual funds, insurance only). Must say I\'m pretty pumped.

The last company I was with you paid everything out of your pocket (license fees, insurance, office space, computer, software, etc...) while with Edward Jones I\'m being spoiled with such goodies as a pension (never had one of those before), everything paid for, $5000 a year towards education, and so much more, not to forget a base salary for the first 15 months while I build up my client base (and pure commission kicks in).

I was looking at Edward Jones and BMO Nesbitt Burns (NB is likely an unknown name to those outside Canada) but decided on EJ as my primary \'target\' as they will give me (IE. pay for) my own office and assistant when I qualify (likely less than a year).

EJ is even gonna get my my Ontario license in addition to my NS license to coincide with my can-sell date so I can start working my Ontario business leeds.

Anyway, I\'m pretty pumped. Official start date is June 6 and I\'ve already terminated my position with Investors Group so I have a few weeks to kick around the house and get some of the renovations finished before I have to kick it into overdrive for the new position.

On a related note, I\'ll be traveling to Mississauga, ON a few times in the next 4 months and would love to meet up with any CMoNers in the area if possible (nice to put a face to a post). There is also a possibility I\'ll be in St. Louis in this same time frame (one of the few bigger US cities I haven\'t been to) and if that happens would also like to hook up there.

Yeah, there\'s a bit of industry lingo in there I suppose.

Summary:
  • new job = better than old job
  • visiting Toronto soon
  • possibly visiting St. Louis soon
  • I\'m really happy

Congratulations! Ed Jones is a great firm to work for. They are consistently ranked among the best in broker-dealer surveys every year here in the states. And with the recent aquisition of A.G. Edwards (my alma mater) by Wachovia securities, they are the ONLY regional firm I would even consider at this point.

Get ready to do some door knocking and hustle for about three years to really build your book, but if you put in the time and effort it will more than reward you for your hard work. It is a FANTASTIC training firm by the way, so when you fly back from St. Louis, you\'ll be well equipped to deal in all the lines of business you are looking forward to.

If you need help as you get started, shoot me a PM with any questions or hurtles you are having. I\'ve been in this game for about ten years now and there\'s a lot that I know now that I wish I knew then. ;)

MPJ It\'s great that you are getting all of those bennies!

When I signed up with Apollo Group to work for University of Phoenix I was stoked because I got a nice salary, free education, life insurance, all the health coverage I could want, and a 401k on top of other goodies.

Definitely makes life a bit easier.

Thanks all, especially mattrock. I will likely PM you in the not to distant future. My best friend has been in the business about 10 years now, I use him frequently as well as my mother\'s advisor who is an independent. But I try to learn from as many people as possible as no one person has all the answers and it\'s best to know many sides.
