New Dark Elf Sorceress

Hello, this is my first post here at CMON, and I thought I\'d use the opportunity to shamelessly plug my first CMON mini:

It\'s also my second mini ever, so please be gentle ;).
Any kind of comment and criticism are appreciated, as I\'m trying to improve my skills. Thank you all and have fun!
Thx, Angie

I came...I saw...I voted. :D

Welcome, Angie, to the madhou...er...forums! Please to enjoy your stay!

From what I can see, the paint job looks really nice with great texture (especially on the cold one) and a marvelous base. I would\'ve probably rated it higher if I could see it from different angles. IMO, it\'s a little hard to judge from the profile shot and you miss out on almost any details on the sorceress.

welcome to cmon and the forums! The best way to learn, and introduce yourself, is to start putting your works up here.

For your 2nd ever miniature this is FAR ahead of the curve, do you have a history using paints in another form? You show good blending, nice bold colors (I always like that) subtle shading, and overall a nice composition. The snow on the base really serves to ballance how pale you made her skin.

Just to try to be helpful, I think perhaps another layer of highlights on your beast might make the scales pop a touch more, and give the green a bit more depth. Also the hair could benefit from another layer of selective highlighting. And finally the claws of the beast don\'t seem quite as well blended as the rest.

I just noticed the metalics you\'ve used on the staff, outstanding work there!

All I can say is 100 times better than my 2nd mini, in fact many times better than my 300th mini after 5 years of painting. Nice work, I can\'t wait to see more, so keep posting it. :)

-Eric

PS I agree, I think I\'d enjoy seeing a front on shot of the rider, this photo is a bit tough to judge the piece and give a fair vote.

Wow! Nice job for a second mini! A little more highlight on the skin texture on the cold one would be nice, but, great job!:)

Thank you all a lot! Where to begin?
@ Equus: well, my camera ain\'t the best, and I\'m still trying to figure out how to paste different pictures together (or get a decent front shot), so ... go figure... :(
@ EricJ: Thanks, no, I have no \"history\"... only a little instruction by my bf... wanted me to skip drybrushing for the beginning :p I\'ll consider the skin. The scales are highlighted, but the camera... blah blah... :( And I\'m glad you like the metallics :flip: And I don\'t like the black parts, myself, but I gotta figure out how to highlight black nicely. The claws still need work, too... Oh boy!
Thank you all for your comments and hints, I really appreciate. Keep \'em coming! Thx, Angie

Totally understandable. I\'m trying to work on my first pics of a mini myself, and boy is it a pain! :p

Keep the minis coming! Looking forward to seeing more of your work. And I\'ll totally second Eric\'s observation...that\'s FAR better than anything that I did within the first...uh...dozens of minis I painted. :D Oh who am I kidding? I\'m not even sure how well my minis turn out NOW.

wow, no painting background, even more impressive, there is so much potential here, so you can\'t stop! I wish I had someone long ago tell me to just try blending, and not drybrush for 5 years before trying...

The camera is a large part of showing your work unfortunately, but the more you use it, the more you\'ll figure it out, I\'m sure you\'ll pick that up with a little practice as well.

-Eric :)

Very nice Angie. Much better than my 1st mini. I think that Eric summed up what can be done to improve this mini. Black is one of the harder colors to highlight, one thing that I have been playing around with is using glazes of different colors to highlight black. Keep painting and have a nice day.

First off welcome to the madhouse that is the Cmon forums.

I will agree with what has been said already about the photo. It took me a while to get the hang of it and I am still learning that.
To get different angles in the same pic you need to stitch images together vertically is best, that is if you r photo editing software has that option (it most probably does).
For a second mini it is very impressive, sadly I do not have any of my early works any more but I can assure you that you are way ahead of what I was at that stage.
Highlighting black can be a pain but the best thing is to experiment and read some of the articles plus asking for advice here in the forums will help you alot.
I usually try something like Shadow Grey or Codex Grey in very small amounts.
Keep up the good work and keep posting.

Been and voted by the way.

... Just couldn\'t hold it anymore...
I like this mini very much (and keep reassuring Angie that it is worth it\'s current rating), not just because it is a very cool second mini (the first one was a Vampire Counts Ghost), but also because of seeing that so-called \"advanced\" techniques turn out pretty well if you know what to go for. Glad we didn\'t start off with drybrushing... :D

Hi...

...great work for a start, very promising! As Eric says it seems well ahead of the norm....a proliferation of prolific female beginners of late.....lol I like the colouring used on the cold-one,nice and strong and the sorceress looks good too,her skin is spot on and the skull and metallics look cool as does the base....I look forward to your next submissions! :D
