I bought it to see what's in there.
For the price it's good, but to be honest for me it looked almost like an alternative "portal" magazine with too much ad. in there for my taste.

content for the first issue was:
- 7 pages of advertisements (including new figures from JMD/Rothand, pigments)
- 5 pages or Interview with Rudyk (still haven't read it, but should be good)
- 3 pages Ax Faction mini unboxing (similar to portal's figure reviews)
- 1 page ad.
- 4 pages X-Wing game (it could be useful, but I already know the game + ravage5 or 6 has a similar article on the game)
- 6 pages of ad. (figures from different small companies, the "prometheus" one looks really good, so because of that one I forgave the length of this ad.)
- 4 pages "how to make a modular malifaux terrain" --> first article that really interested me in the mag. It's only the intro part though, not much in tutorial yet.
- 3 pages Clockwork Paladin unboxing (again for me it's like an ad. :( , still can be useful for some )
- 1 page ad.
- 4 pages on game shows in UK (didn't really interest me, but it's good to know about others than Salute too)
- 8 pages: "dark carneval" diorama step-by-step --> second article that interested me, and was really good to read/see it.
- 1 page ad.
- 7 page gallery on sent in pictures
- 1 (final) page of ad / back of the mag.

maybe I'm looking at figure painting too narrowly, but it's 17(+7 page gallery) pages that were interesting others were articles that could go to a gaming magazine or ads.

Still for the price it's a good thing. I find it way better than WD :) .
All I ask from the creators: a bit more focus on figure painting/modelling (including something from spain/french with busts + oils) and a bit less advertisement (either the first 7 pages or the middle 6 page could be cut/merged and if possible please get rid of some of the 1 page ones)

That's a pretty fair review and I'd like to address some of you points. I was the co-creator of Portal and used to design it so you see the similarities. Portal has now changed its format so FPM looks completely different from Portal's latest incarnation which I like very much. They have gone for a more digital publication appearance while FPM retains a traditional magazine feel.
We specifically kept the price point as low as possible so everyone can afford it. This means we need the adverts because we pay for content. It's a simple fact that to get the best content available we have to pay.
FPM is aimed at a much wider audience - from 32mm fans all the way up to garage kits and covering every genre. We all have one thing in common and that's painting scaled down miniature figures and we can all learn different techniques from each other so we aim to have as broader a range of topics covered as possible. At first glance some of these articles might not appeal but I'm sure most people will learn something new.
The reviews have nothing to do with the company who's product is being reviewed we don't even ask their permission. I don't even have, or want, a say in what they are so they remain as honest and informative as possible. If it's good or bad the writer has free reign to say so.

hi,

on the ads: ok, I understand, that's why I wrote "if possible" I suspected that is the reason behind it.

one question on the game-table (if you have the answer): cca. how many parts were planned for it? so how fast will the build actually go?

The plan is to follow the building of they table until its completion. This promises to be a very enjoyable article because the guys building the table are going to cover all aspects of it's creation including some special effects such as lighting at other electronics. Then at it's completion we'll have another massive surprise.

After reading Amazing Figure Modeler I got the same idea where there was a lot of ads and not enough on the kits themselves, but I also realized one thing that I believe you should take into account- Make sure you have articles that deal with a wide range of skill levels and take into account not everyone has bought every issue. AFM is a quarterly. I started with #28.. and SO many articles are like "I won't go into basic sculpting because it was covered in issue #8.".
So 28-8= 20x 4 months= 6 and three quarters years ago! Update already!!
