hey gang... always loved saying that... here is a REALLY crappy shot of my first almost finished green.... Not representative of what I was talking about in my past thread but something to attempt to drum up some work..... Better pics of a mor complete fig later on. :D

Pictured next to Reaper\'s executioner fig for scale reference.

look great so far

That is very nice! I think it will be an outstanding mini when it\'s done.

I\'m also hoping to have a line of minis by the end of \'06... are you going to cast in resin or are you going to do pewter?

Best of luck with your line of figures- they will be fantastic:D What are you going to call them?

Many Thanks Wappellious. I love your diorama work that I have seen here at CMON. I have not contracted, or even contacted a caster yet, so that part is till abi tup in the air but I will most likely go with pewter. I would love to see some of your stuff as well. :)

What are you going to call them?

Hmmm..... Omni Magnificent! :D

What do you think too uppity? :innocent:

Looks good so far. Nice smooth finish, good muscular anatomy. You can see you have sculpting experience. :)
The legs look a bit short but that could be the photograph. Can we have a view from the side and detail of the face?

One tip I got when I started sculpting: accentuate. Make details just a tad sharper and deeper as they would be in reality. To compensate for detail loss during mouldmaking and casting but also because it looks better in small scale.
IMHO: If I look at the photo I\'ve got the feeling the muscles and facial details could do with some extra accentuation. Deeper cuts around the eyes and so. Do you know \"points of rest\" as discussed in Eduard\'s Lanteri\'s \"modelling and sculpting the human figure? Creating division between the muscle groups? You can see that effect stronger in the arms of the cast figure. You could experiment with that and see what works best for casts. In any case, I\'d recommend having this figure cast when you\'re done so you can compare master with cast. No, no reaction yet from the caster I mentioned.

Looking forward to seeing your sculpts. I think they are going to be great.

Bye, Ming-Hua

thanks EricJ, I will keep a regular update here at CMON.

Minimaker... Thanks for the compliments and the help finding a caster. I actually only have limited sculpting experience, I havenever finished a piece completely, or even as much as 75 % complete to be honest.

I had always wondered why minis looked so sharp. I had also feared that there was a good enough reason that my own work would be sub par or at least not as good for reproduction. I will ahve to work on that.

Never heard of it, however I can now correct that gap in my education. Thanks. :D

heh heh Thanks green stuff.... You must have posted while I was responding.

Now THAT is a barbarian! Now I am looking forward to more! The legs do look a bit short, but I really like the massivneness you have given him - reminds me of one of my favorite artists from Savage Sword of Conan, he rendered Kull and Conan much like that! Barbaric splendor!

His legs look short. He could be \"long-waisted\" I guess but still, it looks very odd. I would add a few mm at least to his legs, so his proportions are closer to the other mini in your picture.

This is the book I refered to:
-\"Modelling and sculpting the human figure\",
Edouard Lanteri, Dover books, softcover, 312+ pages. Classic sculpting book on sculpting large life-size and smaller from the start of last century. With a lot of information on sculpting and issues related to it like anatomy and drapery. ISBN 0-486-25006-7.

Book from 1902 with loads of information. I\'m still busy studying it.

yeah, About the proportion difference between hi storso and legs..... First hi slegs look much shorter than they actually are in that pic.... They are bent forward at the ankles, and bent at the knees as well. Thus they look shortened. Even still though I was going for a kind of cartoonish exaggeration of anatomy. You know the whole big upper and small lower body? ANyway I do not think it worked out the way I had wanted.... Oh well.

Well, I like the style, I agree with \"the gang\" that the legs are a bit short....I like the skinny thigh, large calf thing that he has going on, so he could still have cartoony anatomy with longer legs. :)
