I wasnt a fan of it but now that Ive seen the sprues I can see the potential for conversion. I think I will get one and see what I can do with it. What this space The one to the left.

I think the plan is to eradicate metal minis from all boxed sets, so that eventually only blisters will have metal minis. i can\'t see the problem with this since the plastic molding technology is increasing.

Yeah, I don\'t really see the problem with plastic either. The plastic technology keeps moving forward and I don\'t think it\'ll be too many years before plastic models can be more detailed and crisp than metal models. One thing I really like is that they can make blades and sharp things much \"sharper\" with plastic than with metal. In fact, I think plastic has a lot of other advantages too. It\'s much easier to glue plastic figures together, and the bond is much stronger. Plastic figures generally have a smoother surface than metal figures too.

Also, paint sticks better to plastic than metal, so there\'s less risk of the paint job chipping from excessive touching or dropping on the floor.

Technical issues: Plastic being easier to glue and paint than metal depends entirely on the glue you use and how dilligently you prime.
The only time I\'ve ever had a problem with paint sticking to metal was when I experimented with painting unprimed minis.
While I do not necessarily have any \'ideological\' issues -like many \'old-school\' gamers -with plastic figures per se, they do sort of convey a \'disposable toy\' image, which could lead to the horrifying sight of your 8+ paintjobs being shoveled back to after a game by the kid across the table like so many Mage Knights....
Another thing I like about Alternative Armies figures, they\'re hefty...
As far as this gamer/collector of 30+ years is concerned, legitimate uses of plastic are things like regiment boxes of rank & file troops, and dragon wings. The metal ones were always a major challenge to attach......

I think you misunderstand what I\'m saying. When you glue metal together with metal, you use super glue and the two pieces are glued together and can break apart. When you glue plastic together with plastic, you use plastic glue (polystyrene cement), which melts the plastic and causes to two parts to become permanently bonded to each other.

I\'ve never had problems putting paint on primed metal either, but I do know from personal experience that dried paint rubs off a metal figure much easier than it rubs off a plastic figure. If you drop a metal figure on the floor, chances are the paint will have chipped off somewhere, but if you drop a plastic figure on the floor this is much less likely (I\'ve never had it happen to me).

i like the one with the wheel around his neck. he looks more gianty and less like a stretched out ogre. i\'m not sure about the skinnyness issue. i think he\'s ok. i didn\'t like the albion giants, they went too far. sadly, i probably will buy one (not that ican afford it!!)

I think the original GW pic looks touched up in photoshop. In the other one you can see brush strokes. In the GW one you can\'t. MIght be just me.

I\'m not much of one for giants on the whole but I do like some of the converted pics of this one. Just the one on the box cover looks horrible. The paint job is amazing! What I do like about it is the cow and the running/screaming peasant :bouncy: Can I just get the running peasant-I can see using him in lots of dioramas lol

I think they are different models.

The more I look at this giant, and see all the different versions, the more I want it. It looks like its quite a bit taller than the current giant... Probably to make it that much more giantish in the ogre armies... If its not too much taller than the metal one I might pick it up to add to my orc army. But seeing some of the pictures the running peasant I think its gonna dwarf the other one, so I might just pick it up for the fun of painting it. Any ideas if GW will provide a plain 50x50 base as well as that sculpted one (looks like50x75)?

Although I kind of liked the sculpt (and Anja\'s paintjob is just sumptuous) I had no real need of one.
However, since witnessing the sprue and now potential Beasts of Chaos conversion possibility, I\'ll be succumbing.

Anyone know when it\'s out? Someone\'s probably said but I can\'t be bothered sifting through again
