New GW Tools + Kit

The addition of the grips on the pin vice and files are an improvement. Not that I need any of the tools there, except maybe the vice.

I agree that the new Ergonomical design is probably better for the \"Hobby Drill\" (Pin Vice to the rest of us), but as for the Razor Saw does it come with a First Aid kit?
Having used one regularly I know all well how easy it is to display the contents of my circulatory system.

I have some reservations on the \"suitability\" of the Mini Vice as it\'s a Vacuum /Suction clamp design. And unless you\'ve got a really good clean and non permeable surface to lock it on to it doesn\'t hold very well.

The clippers do look and are described as being more suitable for plastic removal from sprue and those I might give a serious look at.

Man, check out those prices!!! Geez, I know I\'m a cheapskate and all but compare this to Fantization & CMON.

All the tools are also widely available online for a lot less. And at the average hobby store\'s prices too - my double-ended (four sizes) pin vice that I bought on my last trip to Manchester a few years ago was only about £2.50 and I think they\'re still easy to find for a fiver.

Agreed. I had a choice between suction and clamp-on when I finally bought a small bench vice last year (Lidl  ) and I went with clamp-on as the surer alternative.

Prices are way over the top even when you throw in the case at £50.

Vacuum vices are not worth the money give me a clamp on vice anyday you can always use cardboard or a bit of plastic card to stop it marking the table.

Files with handles can be bought in mmost hobby stores like Hobby Craft and similar and for that price you get a few more than just the three. In fact a quick search on google revealed These files from Amazon for just a little less than £7.

The plastic clippers don\'t look any better then the $4 snips I picked up at Canadian Tire. They are good enough for clipping metal bases off of reaper minis as well as cutting dudes off of sprues.

£4 for a sculpting tool

I paid £5 for 12 in a hardware shop!
The prices are way over the top, as usual. I won\'t be buying any of it.

I was actually in coversation with one of GW\'s finest in my not so local GW store a few weeks ago and we were talking about this very thing.
GF9 (among others) has been kicking GW in the butt for a while now with better quality and more diverse tools. And as many of you can attest the old GW clippers were about a crappy as possible and still technically be made of metal.
Supposedly all this stuff is made of fantastic material, especially the metal.

The one thing that stikes me is that the measuring tape looks like the same brand GF9 uses... hmmm... interesting. Leave it to GW to corrupt the measuring tape producers of the world.

Sylish yes but probably Chines made junk.. tools are not supposed to be fancy they are supposed to work and get the job done and last a life time.

I have a pair of Xuron cutters http://xuron.com that I have had for over 12 years and those things will cut just about anyting but steel and are still sharpe.Yes I may of paid about $15.00 for them but they will lat forever. Same goes for files and other tools. I spent big bucks on a set of Swiss made Grobet files.. 20 years ago and they still cut well..Ive burnt through cheap chinese made files in a couple months fileing nothing more than plastic. If its not tool steel..its not going to last. A good x-acto knife should cost more that $3-4.00 at tops.

I dont think the razor saw is worth it, I have a dremel, which I didnt buy at first for using on warhammer, but for cleaning things at home, (second hand shop etc etc) and if I find the saw blade attachment, itll do just the same, and more, and be far neater as well.

As for the vice, dremel also do a bench top one that doubles as just about anything, can get the dremel to sit in it, can winch it right up and fit minis in it, yes its a bit more, but its a lot more solid that than thing.

The only cheap vices Ive ever bought like that are ones Ive used for soldering on, cause you only ever burn through them anyway, and its not worth it.

Modelling knife, ditto, got a surgical scalpel and 100 pack of blades from british steel, I forget the name of the maker, and that was for 25 quid, delivered to my door.

Hobby files, the shop in town here sells a 5 pack for a euro, and I burn through them about every two months, but at that price, I just saw up all my loose change about buy about 8 packs at a go.

And hobby tools I get in packs of 10 from a mate of mine in NZ, costs me 5 kiwi bucks, plus a bit of shipping, but I normally get him to throw them in a care package for me.

Dont tend to use hobby drills, just got a huge range of high speed metal bits and different sized chucks on the dremel.

Plastic cutters I get from the local dollar shop, I think they are meant to be nail cutters, but they taper to half mill, and are like razors, especially on finger tips.

Aaaaaaaaaaand as for the paint station, I could probably make one of those things for a fiver.

It\'s like buying a packet of mini cheddars on a train. Sure they cost you twice as much as if you got them elsewhere but they are right there and if you\'re hungry.....

Convenience counts for a lot with some people, especially those who don\'t know about the alternatives.

I got a pair of those Xuron track cutters not so long ago. They certainly do the trick. Chomp right through brass rod without even marking the cutters. I got them from Heresy, as was recommended on these forums. I also got the diamond files. They make short work of mould lines and unwanted bits of metal.

my most vivid memory of the old GW tools was having to constantly dig out the first aid kit. I bought a set of clippers from B&Q about 10 years ago and they\'re still fine. They\'re having a laugh with those prices, you could pick up everything in that kit for £15 in a tool store and save a fortune.

Ok, I know this is bumping, and I know I said I wouldnt, but guessing you can get these things off GW, that price is mad, cause I get them for 10 quid a box of hundred.

Those are scalpel blades! Scalpel blades might be sharp, but they\'re the wrong thing entirely for modelling. We need strong blades that aren\'t going to flex. That\'s just *cough* somebody *cough* making a very quick and thoughtless buck without regard to what might happen if the blades snap.

Appalling.

i dunno. i pretty much only use scalpel blades tbh. got a stanley knife for the odd bit of heavy duty stuff but if it needs anything that may snap a scalpel blade, i use a saw anyway
