New Instant Mold trial...

Okay so I snagged up some instantmold from the shop.
So far so good.
Little bit of hot water and about 35-60 seconds of patience (yeah..I counted) and you have a gooey blob.
Press your piece in and let it set (DON'T pull the piece out...it stretches the from) then when the mold is cooled down, (I left it for a few minutes to go smoke) you pulled the piece out and push in some putty.
I am using P3 "gray" stuff.
When the putty sets I'll post some pics....

[on the plus side...screwing up is no problem...you just plunk it back in the water and try again.]

I just tried it this evening on one piece molds and they came out fantastic! I only tried simple, flat objects, so more complicated shapes may be different.

Okay, so here are the pics.
I'm too lazy to bust out the set-up, so deal.
point is I didn't eat much today, but drank plenty...drunken posting is the BEST!

Really crisp on the details, even the tiniest little bolts.

I wish I had taken better pics, because the details are SUPER!
I drybrushed the end result so the details were visible.
I am super please!
Can't wait to get a couple sculpted for me so I can start knocking out my g/fs kid's Raven Guard army.

So how are the properties of the stuff when hard? is it flexible as in the video or brittle? Does putty (I think I'll use GS primarily) stick to it at all?

It's rubbery, but not super flexible. Kind of seems like GS after it's cured. You could probably sculpt temporarily with it. And just like the video, nothing sticks to it.

That to me seems to be the greatest asset of this stuff - it won't stick. Thanks for the info and testing it for us.

Can't wait to get my order later in the week. Bought some sculpted bases as well to test it with. Thanks for the post!

I just broke down and bought some too, I would like to use it for face molds and two sided molds using wood blocks and a C clamp to get the pressure right. Looking at the videos, I noticed that you need to keep you desk area clean and clean the mold before using hot water on it, or else the plastic will pick up dirt, left over putty, or just grit. Then once you heat it and knead it for reuse that foreign matter is trapped in the plastic, just waiting to inhibit the detail on your next casting. Just FIY.

I just want to echo what JesterzUSMC has stated about the instantmold stuff. This stuff works great and picks up very small details with ease. I have never used anything that was easier to copy items. I have used Magic Sculpt, Milliput, and Greenstuff and have not had any of it stick to the instantmold. I don't have pics.. sorry. :(

Trying to make a mold of a beaky helmet has shown a lack of my abilities. I can't seem to get a good mold, because it keeps getting air pockets around the details. Suggestions?

When I do that I remove the air pockets through force, I put the mould in a vice and tighten it for all I'm worth, but I'm not sure that mould would be able to withstand that without deforming...
