Hi,

I have for the first time had a go at posting some pictures (JTTravers, have a look!) however I can't for the life of me understand how to get any decent quality at 100kb. The photos were taken in a professional studio (where I work) so getting and editing quality photos isn't a problem, but I was disapointed to see how grainy they are in the gallery having been resized to 600 pixels across and under 100kb total.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

James

I see you have reduced the picture quality as well ass having resized it. After you are done editing the pictures and made them the appropriate size (Through fixed cropping, no changes in resolution other than that) (I'm going to assume you are working with Photoshop here) save the pictures using the 'save for web' function instead of save or save as. If you use the 'normal' save function the only way to get smaller pictures is to reduce quality, that is not acceptable. If you use 'save for web' the program automatically removes unnecessary data that is taking up space and lets you save the data that is the picture and only that. that usually gets you way below the size you need.

Cheers!

We've also got a 1 meg limit if you really need to use it. But a word of advice, a clearer picture sometimes reveals more flaws than features.

Ok, so assuming I have arranged the montage from the original files (so we're now looking at a few MB worth of picture) I then go to resize -> image size and set the width to 600 pixels. Correct so far? This reduces the overall file size to something like 500kb anyway, so am I right in assuming now that if I use the save for web feature I will be where I need to be?

I tried re-doing one this way andf just saving it at 500kb, but when I attempted to upload it there was just a blank box in the edit/upload section as it was waiting. Should this have worked then?

I was a little confused as the upload section claimed a MB was available, howevr the FAQ suggested that it's only 100KB.

Thanks for your help so far, I can do the painting, photos and editing ok, it's just this web bisiness!

Thanks for your help, I've reposted them and they look much better, just waiting for them to go through the system again.
