Just wanted to jump in here and introduce myself. I have been building and painting models for almost 20 years but just started working on minis about 6 years ago. I have done mostly 15mm ww2. I am working more in 25 and 28mm now as well. Reading the articles here over the last couple of years has helped me improve quite a bit. Just today I finished a reaper Bandit which I have submitted to the site for Comment and critique, I started this figure last night specifically trying to improve on my flesh tones as well as in general.

I just want to thank you all for posting not only your fine work which inspires me to improve but also for the general helpfulness you all provide as well.

Welcome to the forums , Matt. I'm sure you'll find a happy home here among the hobbits and trolls (Please don't feed the trolls, no matter how much I beg). Any questions or comments/critique you seek will be well met, they're a friendly bunch on a whole.
As for the submission, the flesh tones are noticeably the best part, so i'm assuming that was definitely the main point of focus for you. The clothes look a wee bit flat though, might want to try and introduce some darker colours for a bit of depth and contrast ;)

Welcome!

Just looking at your pic there, you're definitely on the right track. I think it could do with a few more highlights to add a bit more contrast.

Welcome Matt :good:

Nice swift painting for an evenings worth! A bit of neat darklining would sharpen him up a lot. Throw in a couple more highlights as per 'Vike and you're done!

Have fun!

Cheers, B.

Thanks for the input. I was really happy with the face, though the clothing could use some more. I have a hard time figuring out where to highlight clothing so that's my next step.

Welcome to CMoN! Probably the best place you could come to learn new techniques and gain useful comments :D

As for the mini, I'd be inclined to darken down the chainmaille a little - a bandit wouldn't necessarily want shiney chain to give him away ;) Going on GW colours, I'd apply a thinned wash of Badab Black, with perhaps a tiny touch of one of the brown washes.

Hi, I am new to this site and somehow can't figure out how to upload images on this site. Do I have to have an auction number? Swear I'm not that slow, this site is just very different from all other uploading situations i have ever found myself in. Thanks for your help.
