New player, new army

So I just got into the hobby, and did a 500 point Trollblood army from Privateer Press. Then my local shop shuts down, and no even remotely close plays.
So I\'m looking into a GW army, and I have a few on my mind. However, I\'m a bit lost. I wan\'t something a little on the easy side to help me better basic/beginner skills, but I also want something that I wont get bored with.
The new Skaven army looks awesome! I\'m afraid they\'ll be extremely tough for a new guy to better the basic skills.
I was thinking an army with larger flatter surfaces might be better. So, I saw the Tau, and it looked great, but I\'m not a big fan of the kroot.
I was also looking at the Space Marines, and it got me thinking. I did some research and found only Ultramarines really have it out with the tyranids, but I was thinking of a dark colour chapter that does a lot of battles with the Tyranids.

Any ideas, or insights from you?

Any Chapter will quite happily get stuck into Tyranids but some have had more conflicts with them than others. The Scythes of the Emperor have always been at the back of my mind as a project to do as I quite like the idea behind them. Most of the Chapter was wiped out by Nids and only about a company\'s worth survived. Because of this they have a large proportion of scouts in their forces to replenish their numbers. A scout heavy army is something I\'ve always wanted to try as I\'m told they can be quite effective. That and I like the new Landspeeder thing they have as a transport.

The colour scheme is black with a yellow body and backpack making for quite a striking contrast. Yellow can be a bit of a bitch to paint but the new Iyanden Darksun ought to make it a bit easier.

Of course there\'s nothing stopping you making your own up. Just pick a theme and run with it, just be sure to let us know what you come up with.

I did some research on them. I really like the ideology behind them, and the Lamenters. Though, it is a lot of yellow, and I am a beginner. So, I think I\'ll try and do a much darker scheme, with a touch of yellow. Hopefully it will make the yellow pop even more. I\'m having a tough time deciding on the eye colour.

Tausept Ochre might also work good if you want to get a good base for the yellow. Either way, foundation paints with just a *small* bit of flow improver are great for starting a yellow layer over black primer.

@cswalker - one way of helping to decide an eye colour is strangely enough to decide what colour you would paint purity seals. To keep things simple and to help tie in the mini you can paint them the same colour.
So then what colour-- generally speaking I go for the traditonal red ( unless they are on a red mini in which case they tend to be green) but you can of course go for any colour.
