Damn! Your photo skills are really improving!
The paintjob looks quite sweet, only thing that bugs me a bit is the very clean base compared to the kinda dirty style of the paintjob.

Oh, and before freak gets here... Mould line! :D

hey devon! :) just wondered were you went off!
nice improvement especially in the photo department, but the painting also looks a lot more solid than your previous work. now you need to work on to get some more contrast in the mini to loose some of the flatiness, as said it also lack a real focal point. but its a really big turn in the right direction! keep it up!

Thanks guys I have to say that going through all the tutorials on photos did it. I built a light box out of a diaper box. Set up some lights set the camera up on a tripod and started using the timer. Also I love gimp I only use it to adjust the levels and to crop and make the slide show deal. The site helped me get better so thanks guys.

Another Question guys what should I have used as a focal point on him?

Change nothing, it is quite good !
Only the arm on the last photo is not clean.
And it can come from different things (Lights, camera, the focal point, ...etc...)
Keep up this kind of good pictures !

On these things, most people use the eyes on the front and the firebox grill on the back. Sometimes the weapons are of the 'magic-glow-in-the-dark' variety. Depends on how much of the fluff you want to paint on your minis, as well as personal taste.
Of course there are those that take it too far like this. Well actually I like it, but it is pretty over the topish.
If you are painting them for game play, I recomend painting/marking the front arc on the base, preferably in an artistic fashion. If it is for display not play then the basing should be fancier, to go with the powerful and dynamic pose you have the 'jack in.
Nice job, keep painting.

I paint my thumb.
That's pretty neat. As been said, contrast is a must here, especially for metals, Just a couple
well placed hot spot would have done the tricks. Just about anything glowy/sparkling on the 'eyes' would have done the trick for the focal point, as the rest of it is pretty monochrome (Not a bad thing on itself.) I like the pressure gauge in the back, nice addition.

Nice mini but I also think there isn't enough contrast. Anyway, it looks like you've improved in your photo skills and in painting. Keep it up.

nice work. looks like a little mould line on his left arm though,,,

have to echo the other's comments about gontrast. even some uppermost edge highlighting would help

I do have to say that IRL he isn't that monocrome. Just with the pics he came out more like that.
Yes, it could also be from a bit with the camera. Anytime you shoot a model with little variation in contrast, it is tough to photograph. The human eye can distinguish MILLIONS of shade and hues, whereas the camera lens is much less suited to it. So, often, a model's photo will look less contrasted than IRL.

I *LOVE* Jen Haley's work, but a lot of times she paints with VERY subtle hue and value changes, and they are near-impossible to capture in the lens. I always feel bad, because the photo never does the model justice. :(

Excluding the face where a focal point is often created the upwards-facing areas on the top of the figure are a natural area where contrast can be increased to help draw the eye.

On the overall paintjob, is weathering something you're interested in or do you want to stick with a clean look? Other than contrast generally I think another issue is more attention should be paid to the lighting direction.

Hi Devon, massive improvement in photos, well done :good: If we can have just have an Avatar pic of you smiling now... :D

Is there more red/orange rust tone on the vented areas than show up in the pic or is just a very subtle effect that you've gone for? I like it. For a very quick focal point just colour in the eyes, anything bright will do & it should make a huge difference.

Keep up the good work, cheers, B.

This is really nicely painted and I kinda like the very matte effect. I agree that it does lack a focal point. One thing that could have some more colour, would be the smoke stacks around his body. You could really go to town with some nice rust there and how about some colour on that sword?

All in all a really neat paint job and a great piece to get back into painting with :D

Hey guys It just dawned on me that I didn't balance out the color on this pic before I submitted it. I am so sorry for this. But here is the new pic I ran through GIMP. Also the old pic lost it's link and broke please vote again thanks.
