Dam fine army, you should be very proud.

I have found testors to be a nasty drop of stuff too,
if sprayed right it does the job well though, but its so hit and miss I dont use it anymore, however there is a new recipe coming out in the UK, which hopefully will be better.
I you want matt, it depends on what you\'ve put on already, but I now use humbrol satin brush on and Daler & Rowney Matt brush on, but even that should be put on thinly.
Testors brush on, is one sure fire way of ripping all that nice paint off your figures, its evillol;)

now that i would agree with
Why is that better then matte varnish?

Awesome Tau army btw. Really proves inspirational to me since I\'m gonna start a Tau army too:)

Hi guys thanks for the advice.

So far the minis have had a coat of Vallejo matt varnish thinned with water.

If i use the dullcoat which i have bought and mix it with the testors thinners will this be ok over the varnish that i have already used ????

Dont want to ruin any of the stuff i have done.

I wouldn\'t touch your tau, with that stuff, testors is a laquer by the way and likes eating paint, if you have to, try it out on an old figure first. And if its brush on, dont brush too much, with spray dont put too much on, lightly does it.
Good luck

Sexy scheme, and very clean painting - wouldn\'t look out of place in the \'Eavy Metal studio :)

I\'ve never had any problems using Testor\'s straight onto paint, but I\'d still be wary of putting on a thick coat. Several light sprays has always worked for me. Too much, and it tends to go shiny. The paint-on dullcote is fine too, although a lot more toxic, but if you\'re doing it over a piece that\'s already been varnished it\'ll be a lot less matt in my experience.

Ooh, and another thing - if you use a lot of it, over time dullcote goes slightly yellow. My Kislev standard bearer used to have a nice white beard, now it looks a bit nicotine-stained lol

coz matte varnish provides little protection. gloss will provide a protective layer and then the matte flattens it

Another update.

1st Broadside 90% done, just need to tidy up the highlights to thin the odd line out here and there plus highlight the black parts with a 50/50 mix of black & grey.
