new Testors game

For a While now, I\'ve been planning to build a Car Wars Diorama, but like reversing global warming and brokering world peace I haven\'t quite gotten around to it. I was planning on using 1:43 car models and 28mm figs.

Then I found this, http://www.overdrivearena.com/
Its a vehicle combat game by Testors (models) using 1:43 scale cars. Now I have renewed reason to start modeling those cars. Now If they would just make a Global Warming miniture game...

that looks...

actually pretty cool.

I\'m a bit of a novice though, how big is a 1/43 scale car? Is that the same scale of what a hot wheels or matchbox car is?

I find it interesting that Testors is actually putting this out and trying something slightly different from just model kits.

There are \'sample rules\' on the site I noticed, I think I\'ll read through them.

Does Testors know how litigious Steve Jackson is? Looks like a great idea, but this is the guy who sued the Federal government for delaying the release of a game because they seized the computer it was on as part of an investigation.

Other than I knew Car Wars existed, I don\'t know much about it at all. Does the Testors game look similar (other than it is with model cars) to his? So much so that he would have a suit?

The fact that it involves cars and guns is prolly enough to have him salivating in his 1970\'s era clothing. Really.

Looks pretty cool, 1/43 scale is slightly larger than Matchbox Cars but only just it is a very popular scale of collectors of racing car replicas ie F1 and Rally cars that sort of thing.
I think the game is different enough to keep the law suits at bay and let\'s face it Car Wars and the later version Dark Future have been OOP for a very long time. But who knows back then the game was played with matchbox or corgi models repainted with bits added on so it will depend how picky Mr Jackson is.

That was wholly justified though, a small company was totally screwed by the Feds on very shaky grounds, largely because they didn\'t know how to handle \"computer crime\" properly. An agent even referred to the GURPS Cyberpunk gamebook as a \"manual for computer crime\". Steve Jackson Games had to lay off some of its employees due to financial troubles in the aftermath of the raid (which postponed release of several new products).

Linky to EFF article.

Good stuff NSA!! Very interesting read.

Aggreed! I knew some of this info but not all.

As for the game it looks cool and seems to be along the same lines as Car Wars. I do believe that SJG released a new version of Car wars in 2000. I have not seen anything since but I do not look at his stuff as much as I used to.

All of this is true - however, SJ is not what one would consider a financial genius and has had problems with a lack of communications from his employees - and his former employees are legion in the Austin area - I know many of them, cause we run in the same circles down there.

All in all though, he aint as bad as TSR when they tried to copywrite NAZI.

Well If he\'s as lawsuit crazy as you say, I feel sorry for the company E-traction the Car Wars site has a link to. (for those who aren\'t familiar to the game, the E-traction design is how the future cars of Car Wars are propelled.)
