New to the boards

Hi, I\'m new to the boards and new to painting. I know I may get flamed for asking this question, but I\'m going to anyhow. I was wondering if anyone knew a way to take the new D&D Minis, you know....the badly painted plastic ones....and touch em up or totally repaint them altogether.

Like I said, I\'m new to painting and I don\'t want to go completey gung-ho into it and realize I don\'t have the patience for it. That\'s why I figured I would ask aroung and see if anyone had any suggestions for me. I have plenty of the minis that I can play around with to repaint, so it\'s not a big deal if I mess up or if anyone else knows a good set for a beginner, I\'d be more than happy to listen to your suggestions.

Thanks a bunch,
DMD

I\'m unfamiliar with those minis, but you should either be able to paint right over the top, or spray undrcoat them and then paint them .

Welcome aboard :). You might want to post some pics here of the minis so we could give you some pointers ;).

Yes, would be muh easier to give any advice if you could post the pictures of the minis. Welcome to the forums!

No idea what those miniatures are all about. But if the paint isn\'t too thick on them, then just spray an undercoat of choice and wield your paintbrush with gusto. Every pre-painted miniature that I\'ve seen has had a really thin layer of paint, so that shouldn\'t be a problem. Yes, some pics or a link would be a help.

Ask away with your questions, some of us here are getting thirsty. (in-joke that you\'ll understand shortly :) ) Oh, and please leave your sanity at the door.

Welcome aboard. Try something cheap/plentiful like a goblin- if you fear recking one.
And, a very good question indeed.:D

1 - Welcome to the Forums. As has been said, it really hleps to leave a good chumk of your sanity at the door.

2 - Not to worry too much about Flames. :flame: We don\'t really flame many people around here. At least not in too serious a way.

3 - Also as has been said, jsut try priming over the top of the existing paint and experiment away. I think your approach is a good one. Get your feet wet on a few minis that aren\'t too meaningful to you. Then post a picture, maybe over in \"Discuss Submissions\" and ask for help. You\'ll find that the people here are more than willing to help - even the one\'s like me that don\'t know s**t :D

I believe this indivdual (hey and welcome to the boards) is talking about those pre-painted ones that WotC put out here just a bit back (Abberations, Giants of Legends .. etc). Like the wizkids stuff, Mage Knight.

Anyhow, those are some good miniatures to start out on and I\'ve thought about nabbing one or two of them myself and having a go at them. Simply prime over them, and start painting. Should work out just fine.

The BIG problem with those minis is that they\'re cast out of soft bendable plastic, so while they are definately repaintable, I think you\'d end up with the paint chipping off A LOT, especially on the thinner, more bendable limbs. But if you try it, let us know how it goes.

And welcome to the boards!

Yes, definately give them a good coat of some kind of sealant- then if they are too shiney -spray them with testors dulcote.:)
