27 is not too old to start playing. I\'m 28 and I have been on WH for 10 years now.

These is obsolutely no minimum for playing a game either. That minimum troop choice you have to make is GW\'s way of makng an extra buck. It matters and it doesnt. I have played a game of 40k with just 6 models just by calling house rules on some problems we would run into.

As far as playing a game with someone younger then you I feel the same. Mos tof the people I played with 10 years ago either dont play any longer or we play so seldom I end up playing with kids at a gaming store .... 10 years younger then me. This would bother me but I feel older guys must feel the same if I sit at their poker table. Its a game and if you enjoying playing it then it wont matter who your playing with.

Ask to use another persons army for a test game or two and you\'ll get a much better expereince for Warhammer. Its alot to remember just from reading a book so actually doing it a few times wil lmake alot of sense on how it affects the game. Most GW centers are well prepared to do this and the employee will carefully explain how a game works with you and let you use the \"house\" models.

WH40K is like this, the game moves very quickly compared to Fantasy and is more like a high powered hang onto your seats thrill. Theirs tactics involved but shooting really big guns as fast as possible getting troop A to troop B as quickly as possible. I play 40k and I actually prefer this to fantasy simply because I like dropping unit after unit with deep strike as compared to marcjing across a field.

Fantasy is also really play and I enjoy it almost as much. I idea here is a little more balanced if not more complicated. WHFB I consider to be more of a chess game I find myself sitting there watching the table like I do a chess board and mentally watch every move my enemies units can do 3 turns in advance. The game I find takes longer also. I can get 2 1500 point 40k games in what it takes me to do a WFB game of the same points. Its fun but I think it takes alot more work and people who really like prefer WHFB to 40k.

I will tell you this thoguht WH is NOT cheap in either form. A boxed unit is 25-50 bucks depending on what you get. Its takes many units to play a normal 1000+ point game or above. I generally play 1750 games so my fielded army is just a hair over 200. It used to be sound logic in warhammer that 100 dollers got you 1000 points. That doesnt really work anymore with price changes but you can get good deals online. Most people sell 2000 point armies on ebay either painted or unpainted generally for 1/3 of the retail cost to build said army.

GL on on playing though, it is alot of fun and I wouldnt be doing it 10 years later if I didnt think it wasnt a cool game.
