So like, I've been playing warhammer for a while and whenever i pick a colorscheme for my army i have a bad habit of choosing very common colors (red green blues) and i Really wanna make my next army (Tyranids) Stand out. im not very good at choosing a 2 main color scheme, so i came here looksing for advice.

I would really like it to be earthy and kind of deserty stealthy adaptation-y but i am not really good at color theory. what made me happy was seeing somethign like this
http://www.coolminiornot.com/319427?browseid=3639490
and seeing how well he made similar colors look really awesome.
Any input would be awesome!

Just to mention, part of what makes that so successful isn't the colour scheme per se but the finesse with which it is done.

That is a very good point Einion! Unfortunately i do not posess such finesse! My painting level is about a 6.5 and I want a nice subtle earthy colorscheme to use with this level of painting that i posess.

Well subtlety is one of the other key elements so it's a good start to have that as a specific goal.

Have you ever tried painting something in greyscale, then lightly tinting it with thin layers of colour on top? This might be the perfect canvas to test that sort of thing out.

Thank you for the advice Einion! I;ve been reading some color theory and techniques to pick some complementary colors etc. The grayscale idea is something i will try as soon as finals are over!
