New World /Geisha,Art in film !

Over the last fortnight I have watched 2 really beautiful films, very arty & slow by blockbuster standards but still SUPERB movies. As this site tends to lean towards the artistic type I thought here would be a good place to recomend them.New World is basically the story of Pochahontas/John Smith.Visually this film is just stunning !Cinematography like wise is just awesome . Its slow pace adds to the feeling of authenticity. (No heroes running around like headless chikens, shouting and screaming .)
Memoirs of a Geisha , is also magnificently filmed, blowing apart the western myth of oriental tarts in silk. Here the beauty is in the faces & kimonos, the grace & movement of the Geisha & the stunning oriental settings.
I recomend them both if you like visually sumptuous movies & something that is genuinely beautiful.( No pyro-technics ,mindless violence , compulsory sex scenes or egos in sight ! ) GOD bless ...........VINCENTI

I want to see both of those films :( Geisha was rather poorly reviewed, and New World criticised for being too long, but King Kong was three hours and don\'t get me started on The Return of the King :D I\'ll have to rent those on DVD. The actress in Geisha was also in Hero, that is a MAGNIFICENT and WONDERFUL film. The plot is just beautifully done, and visually it is unparalleled (apart of course by House of Flying Daggers and Croughing Tiger, Hidden Dragon, by the same director I believe) :D I might like Geisha a bit less because it has no gravity-defying stunts, walking on water etc.... MAN I LOVE HERO!

Memoirs of a Geisha I\'m very interested in and will probably rent it.

However I\'d not heard of New World untill this thread.
Unfortunatley not in my listing and never likley to be due to one major flaw:- Colin Farrell. :|~

Unfortunatley, that would be correct !

Don\'t know what it is about the man but he makes my teeth grate!

Umm hes an idiot? But I agree can\'t stand to watch a movie with him in it.

I think New World went into the movie theaters and out the back door on the same day here..to be honest Im not sure if it was even in the theaters here now that I think of it.
