Hi and welcome! :)

You have just asked what must be the most frequently asked question on these boards and you will find a lot of useful info on it if you use the Search function in the upper left corner of the page. In short: NMM = Non Metallic Metal (i.e. no metallic paints used to paint metallic areas) and SENMM = Sky-Earth NMM (where Sky-Earth indicates painting on reflections of sky and earth on your metallic areas... really shiny metals, in other words).

NMM stands for \"non-metallic-metals\". Basically, throw out yoru metallic paints and usign greys, browns etc... you paint the metal bits on your mini using a directed light source to manually create highlights, shading and reflections.

Really well done NMM is difficult to discern between NMM and metallics in my opinion.

SENMM is \"Sky-Earth NMM\" or really reflective NMM. There is a \"horizon\" usually, showing the light sky reflecting on the metal, and a darker earth reflecting the ground ala the car bumper in front of you at the stop-light.

There are copious tutorials about.

I\'d never have guessed you were a newbie from the amount of question marks in the topic title! ;)

But welcome, and to make a preemptive strike here on possible future queries:

- OSL is object source lighting - making it look like light is being cast onto the miniature from a painted light source.
- Zenithal lighting is painting a model with the illusion of natural light coming from a fixed point.
- Answers to most painting queries can be found in the Articles section
- No, ratings aren\'t really important, it\'s comments on your work that are useful.
- Thinning your paints is a very important step to improving your painting.
- You need 5 minis with 50 or more votes before you get an overall ranking.
- Yes, there are an awful lot of threads saying GW suck and are the root of all evil when it comes to miniatures and wargaming, and yes, they do get rather repetitive and tedious.
- And yes, Reverend is a surly swine and a little scary sounding at first, but deep down he\'s a cuddly teddy bear (possibly)! ;)

Stick around for a while and I\'m sure these things will make more sense.

Welcome...

NMM - New Mexican Metal - a small, rather localized rock music genre

SENMM - Southeast New Mexican Metal - an even small, more localized rock music genre.

OSL - Outrageous Slave Labor - one way of getting your armies painted in a short period of time.

Brush Licking - a psycho-sexual ritual performed to gain the favor of the painting gods. THere is a vocal, active cult of Brush Lickers here on CMON whose High Priest is a seemingly likable chap named, appropriately, Ritual.

Golden Toadstool - a natural psycho-active halucinogenic fungus originally found only in Carlsbad Caverns. However, it appears to have been successfully cultivated in Ontario, Canada as well. It\'s use here on CMON was popularized by ZaPhOd, the only known aficionado of SENMM music in Canada.

Coffin Dodger - an appellation of great respect and affection used towards those venerable denizens of CMON who, statistically, are closer to death than birth. Coffin Dodgers are generally believed to be infallible, inviolate, indefatigable and (in some cases) insufferable.

Mop Boy - wellllllll, perhaps some things are better left for you to discover on your own.

Welcome to CMON Forums. To paraphrase lono: \"Stick around for a while and I\'m sure these things will make LESS sense.\"

Despite being despised and ridiculed by many it actually works!

Brush-licking DOES make you a better painter! :D

And paint tastes yummy! (Well, most of them... unless you put flow improver in it... and there\'s differing views on wether metallics taste good or bad...)
