News on New GW Paint range !

This is in regards to all the rumours, and talk of vallejo being inducted into GW\'s empire....

I spoke to a GW staff member today on the topic of vallejo game color, and also the new painting line that GW will be producing. Heres what I got out of him!

First off, he had\'nt even heard of vallejo before, so me asking him if there new line of \'game color\' bothered GW , would have been hard for him to answer . lol

Secondly , there will be more colors added to the spectrum and some colors being dropped. So far that is known, some of the blues are going to be dropped . While GW is usualy known for its radiant and bright colors, they are going to be adding a few more darker tones which the GW staff member said would be more like \"dark toned army colors\".

The staff member said in light to the new paint pots that they would be \"taking a step backward\" with their new design . Their paint pot is going to be something like the old style citadel paint pots. In regards to the capacity however, it will be the same as it is currently .

There is no talk of a price increase at the moment , so dont worry ... yet

He said that there is no real release date , but more then less it will be in summer.

So there you have it, right from the horses mouth!

Nice to hear that they are dropping some of the tones, it is kinda weird that they have so many blue tones, but not a single good flesh colour :(

Looking forward to seeing those \'dark army colours\', though...

\"Vernon! That light! ...The Jeffersons\' dog is back!\"

heh . . .even though I swear by Vallejo their named flesh colors are too yellow to use . . I actually prefer the 3 in GW\'s range (Dark, Dwarf and Elf) :)

Add purple. Anyways, I think it\'s strange to have about 3 threads ope on this at a time.. but I actually prefer Valljo\'s blues because they look more natural and not too bright either.

aah... jeez.... What are the odds they drop the colours that I find really useful!? If Ghostly Grey goes then there will be trouble! I have to say though that half of their colours do seem a bit superfluous. Some can be easily mixed using the more basic colours.

Hope they go back to flip top lids! Still want to screw us with the volume they hold then! I\'m sure the prices won\'t increase (yeah, a pigs might fly!). I can just see it... \'we need to charge more because we\'re using better, more expensive pigments/the pots are engineered to withstand the blast from a dirty bomb/the more you pay us, the more we can give back to you the gamer\'.

Sorry if my cynicism comes across a little too harshly.

And the reason I prefer Reaper\'s paints to GW\'s is .... Reaper\'s are sooooooo much easier to open! By the time I finally break the seal on my GW paints, my hands are shaking so bad I can\'t hold my brush still! :p

Browns

I\'m waiting for a range of 1,000 browns because brown is the best colour ever to enter the painting arena! Brown is king and I can\'t wait to see some nice umbers and earthy browns and mustards and siennas and chocolates and poo and turd and runny muck browns, a brown for every day of the year! Saying that, I get all my browns from Miniature Paints who are based in Liverpool - I think Ral Partha have a link with them though I can\'t remember the website.

Just buy lots of paints from different suppliers and fill in the gaps in your colour range that way. GW, Vallejo and Miniature Paints are all comparable so go and find the ones that work for you.

Oh come all ye cynics,
Suspicious, bitter, twisted...

I could do a song about us!
:moon:

Take care

Reason for posting

Apologies, I spoke to my friendly GW fella too, and he said that the colours would be geared towards the Imperial Guards in part, as there are so many \'traditional\' colours and historic parallels in their uniform.

Well actually he didn\'t say that exactly, but that was the point I got.

There, I\'m not just an ugly face! I do have my uses in the info trade.

Advised by my local store manager that the range of Blues will drop in that \'ICE Blue\' & \'Lightening blue\' are so close as to be indistinguishable. Pallid Flesh will go as will one of the Oranges. If you use, them stock up now.

As to the containers they are a combination Screwtop with a flip top lid, sound weird but I saw one in use at GW\'s headquarters, courtesy of Tammy Hayes\' painting demo back In November. Basic size will remain the same to fit into GW\'s store paint racks.

In addition the UK price of the paints will increase to £1.75 as of March. Can\'t say about the rest of the world sorry.

Reverend you sound like a typical welsh man talking about all things brown, Mud Beer, Sh!t, Dirt, The water at Barry Island you get my drift.

Nice to see someone else based in Cardiff

And your right BROWN is the best colour:D

Anyway back to the thread topic.

A mix of both screw and flip cap is perfect as the olf flip caps cought me out more than once (/me still remebers mothers paniced face as i walk into room coverd in pot of Red Gore)

Not happy to here about the price rise but not much I can do about it.

Hezrou good man!

Hey Hezrou, that sh!t in Barry Island wouldn\'t make it past the European legislation on safety! It\'s caustic, brown and stinking. I suppose you know the old story (not sure if it ever happened or if it\'s Urban Myth) about a friend of a friend who was swimming under the water and then surfaced only to find a lump of shite on their bonce! Ha ha ha! lol

Nice one!

Would that be Coat d\'Arms? That\'s the old flip lids and colours if I recall. Try, if you can, Miniature paints by Game Craft as well. They are surprisingly good and very reasonable at one whole squid a little jar (roughly same volume as GW). They are made in Scouse land and I\'ll track down a website today for you all (if someone aint nicked it! Geddit! That\'s for the British and is probably quite a dated joke but hey, it\'s just about stereotypes so don\'t blame me).

I find it sad/odd that GW is planning on dumping Pallid Flesh, as it is one they use in Slaanesh legions - and Chaos just underwent a major overhaul. Are they planning on replacing it with another color?

Guess maybe I won\'t dump my bank account into a Chaos army after all.......

........or maybe I should try to convince my local miniatures supplier to stock up on other paint brands.........

Actually... I always though Pallid Flesh was pretty a pretty useless color. Kind of like Storm Blue, the blue that turns purple after it dries...

Sadly, Pallid Flesh and Storm Blue are a few of the colors I actually use. The former for painting human types that don\'t get much sun. (Tho Reaper has a comparable color.....) I also found that Storm Blue mixes well for that on-the-fly experiment. (Like that shimmering teal I got with Storm Blue, Snot Green, and a bronzing powder.)

But that\'s just my opinion, and I\'m sure I\'ll find plenty of other colors to play with. (Or someone will bring them to my attention....)

And Reverend you are right. You can NEVER have too many browns! (I think they should come out with Baby Diaper Yellow to go with Vomit Brown. :p)

Storm Blue\'s one of my staple colours! Mix with Dark Angel\'s Green and Rotting Flesh to get a lovely turquiose!

Here\'s what I\'ve heard:

New Colours: Terracotta, Tanned Flesh, Desert Yellow, Catachan Green, Kommando Khaki, Graveyard Earth.

Changed Colours: Midnight Blue (higher pigment content), Varnish (gloss rather than matt).

Dropped Colours: Leprous Brown, Imperial Purple, Vile Green, Storm Blue, Lightning Blue, Beaten Copper, Smelly Primer, Nauseating Blue, Bilious Green, Pallid Flesh, Ghostly Grey, Jade Green, Green Ink, Sky Blue Ink, Orange Ink.

Not sure how accurate that list is; friend of a friend sort of situation I\'m afraid. If it\'s true, the loss of Pallid Flesh, Ghostly Grey and the Green and Sky Blue Inks (Dark Green Ink and Blue Ink are both too overwhelmingly dark for my taste) is going to make my life harder. None of the new colours sound all that appealing (maybe Desert Yellow, if it has decent coverage). On balance, this sounds like a Bad Thing.
