Nids Question

Ok - so is the feeding tendril head (or as we refer to it around Casa Steelcult the ol squidlips ripoff) a legitimate option for Nid Warriors?

Or can you only use the flat plate bug heads for em?

Erm...IIRC, the term and hormagaunts only use the one style of head, with the plates on the top.

It\'s the genestealers which can be given the multiple styles of head.

Though I ain\'t got the codex anymore to check the wargear lists.

But I suppose if you think it is cool, there no stopping you just using it.

matt is pretty dead on...

You can slap on whatever head you want really

If you\'re gaming with it though, it\'s really just a matter of, does the head represent a piece of wargear and it it legal gear for the unit? Even if the head represents gear the unit can not use, you haven\'t paid the points for it and as long as you don\'t try to use the wargear it represents, it\'s all good.

I.e. , you may have a winged Hive Tyrant model, but in a particular army list you don\'t pay for the wings ability, so you just use it normally. Again it\'s only an issue if you try to use the winged ability when you haven\'t paid the points.

At the risk of sounding redundant, if it\'s just a modeling preference and not a gaming concern, then it\'s a non-issue. Some purists may whine that a certain biological feature is not available to certain form, but telling a fanboi to shut-up is almost a hobby in and of itself.

You have obviously never heard of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). It\'s not an official rule, but certainly something you should strive for to keep things as obvious and uncomplicated as possible while you are gaming.

Using models that display all sorts of extras that you can purchase for the units (but have elected not to) is really dodgey. It\'s poor from a background point of view but more importantly, it\'s incredibly confusing for your opponent.

As for the initial question, feeder tendrils can only be used by Broodlords, Lictors and Genestealers, so if you wanted to stick tendrils on Tyranids as a purely aesthetic tweak it shouldn\'t confuse anyone in gaming terms. Because of this I\'d say it\'d be fair enough to use them.

I have heard of WYSIWYG - but don\'t really like the head options that come with the warriors - but I do think that one with the Feeding Tendril head would look sexy.

But then again, I\'m strange.lol

I think the \"You have obviously never heard of WYSIWYG\" comment was for me. : / I have, and apologize for not adding that I have never played in a tournament or other type of sanctioned play for 40K. Just with friends. Sorry. : /

I\'m used to all sorts of proxy models (old assault marines with the little round shields being used as genestealers and such :)), but agree in a tournament, it would be shady meta-gaming.

Guess it\'s a good thing after all, that I\'m too lazy to mod my gaming 40K. : )

Actually never plan to play in \"Sanctioned\" events - and since I\'m working on a couple of gaming group events that involve models up to Gundams I too think it will never happen.

if its not an RTT where their insane WYSIWYG BS is a MUST HAVE, then model whatever you want on them nids.

this thread may be months old but in the case of nids they are supposed to look menacing unless you are playing the old primarch and genestealers that look like IG i say give then whatever asthetic details you want them.

who is to say your nids have the same fluff as the norm anyway?

this illithid/mind flayer/feeder tendril heads for gaunts, gargoyles, zoanthropes, fexes, etc seem no more out of place than the \"clingy\" genestealers and their multitude of arms.

Gundams? must be someone buiding a inexpensive Tau army.

remember first and foremost enjoy what you model. don\'t let the \'Eavy Metal team make you model something you don\'t like the looks of.
