Hi everyone,
I had some time yesterday to take some pics of my entry for GD Baltimore, the Night Lords chosen veterans.

These guys are pretty straight forward plastic chaos space marines from various sources (except Draco), with extra bits from the VC grave guard, empire flagellants, a chaos marauder banner, and just enough green stuff to make it all work together.

I\'ve been working on them for a little over a year, painting them one at a time, with a couple other projects thrown in between to break things up. I was lucky enough to win gold with them against some very tough competition. Hope you like them, comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking,

These are magnificent. By far some of the best Night Lords I have seen. The conversions add a nice ambiance to it and the painting is nice and subtle, not over the top. Congratulations on the gold, well deserved.

Very nice work! The extra bits are a good fit for Night Lords.

Congratulations on the Demon.

It may be just the picture, but Draco looks a little small compared to the others. As he is an older model how does he compare scale-wise to the newer plastics? I can\'t decide if he is a tad small or fits perfectly from the picture.

Fantastic work. Nice to see a large photo which shows them off well!

Just the kind of painting style I love :D

Congrats on the demon!

congrats on the win...

taken individually, there is nothing very spectacular about these guys...
just good, solid, painting and converting...

as a unit they rock!!!

i think my favorite bit is the skull helmet, and facemask...
the whites on these are smooth and creamy, and jump right out at me...

kudos...

cheers

Thanks for all the positive comments, I really appreciate it.

Alex: I\'ve had several people ask or comment about the bases and the display base. They\'re nothing too fancy, just cork and green stuff. The metal is something I found at work on a jobsite, very similar to a speaker grill but softer metal so its easier to cut.

GunjiNoKanrei: For the most part Draco\'s pretty similar in size. I\'d never noticed the difference until you pointed it out. His legs are definately smaller though I\'d say. He\'s the first one I painted, and my least favorite now. If I had more time I might have painted a fifth plastic marine to replace him.

Jah: Yeah, I\'m pretty fond of both of the guys w. skull faces. They\'re the last two I painted, and I felt like they got better and better as I moved through the squad (the st. bearer was last and he\'s my favorite). The whites are a bit too bright in my pictures and lose their shading. I\'m a thoroughly average photographer and can\'t figure out how to get the darks and lights to all come out well.

may sound like an odd question, but who is draco???
loving the unit, especially the free hand
on the marine with the boltgun and power sword in the foreground, with the blood angel helmet on his base, would you mind telling me how you did the helmet?

Draco is a Black Templars character that was released a while back. I think GW sold him as Castellan Draco in the stores for a while then released him as a Templars captain. Im not even sure if he is in the Templars codex.

Hestan101, Draco is the one in the rebreather mask in the back right corner. I have a friend who said it made him want to cry when I took a file to him to get rid of his Templar icons. (Next on my list of LE loyalists to deface: old Sicarius w. lightning claws)

I did all the reds by starting w. a black undercoat, followed by scorched brown, dark flesh, and red gore. Highlights were one or two more layers of red gore w. a bit of bleached bone mixed in. Then a sepia wash to knock off the pink and tie it all together.
