Nikon Coolpix L6 - a good choice?

After not getting any answers to my previous question, I am trying yet again to get some info about cameras... namely the Coolpix L6. It looks like a nice camera for a beginner with the assistant function and 6 megapixels should be more than enough.

Now, does anybody have some experience or any more information about it? Of course I will be using the camera as well, so I wonder if it works well for miniature photography.

Nikon is know for it\'s macro function so it should do just fine and it is a nice little snap shot camera. If you use litium batteries it goes for about 900 shots before needing the battereis replaced.

I switched from Canon to Nikon when I upgraded my camera, the macro is nice. I haven\'t used a brand new Canon for comparison, but the Nikon for sure is a good one. Focus at ~3cm away is great and they have a nice little feature where the flower icon turns green when you have ideal depth of field.

I have the Nikon L5 and i belive that is the step up from the L6, as the L5 is 7 megapixles. It\'s a good little camera, rather easy to understand so it doesn\'t take more then a few days playing around to figure things out. If the L6 is like the L5 it would be a good choice for a simple beginers camera as the macro feature is real good with pictures that are clear and focused. On the downside i know mine will not let you manualy adjust much of the apature, F focus, ISO and the like as it\'s pretty much a strickly point and click camera.

I\'ll give you an example.
This first picture is from my old Cannon A20 camera. This was the absolute best picture i ever got from the thing. i used a lightbox, three 120w daylight bulbs just an inch away ans then corrected the image in photoshop. This picture however is from my new Nikon L5 camera and was just a quick picture with two 30w compact bulbs. I hope this helps. best thing however is if the store will let you, snap some pictures in macro of the same mini on your own memory card then go home and compare what one took the best picture. Above all, research, research and research the cameras until your sure it\'s the one you want.

How are folks liking the newer Coolpixes for non-mini/macro photography? I have a Coolpix 4300 from a few years back which is having mechanical problems. (Very likely caused by being dropped on the floor...) I think the camera has performed well on the macro front, and that any problems with my mini photos have been more about my lack of photography knowledge than problems with the camera.

I have been less impressed with how it does as a camera for the rest of my life. It\'s not so great in modest indoor lighting situations, shutter speed is on the slow slide, and flash photography is even slower. It doesn\'t allow much control over certain settings, including ones which could help take better macro photos.

My hope was to in the near future buy a new camera for the rest of life and keep the Coolpix as a backup and just for macro photography, but now it looks like I need to find an all-around camera. From what I\'ve read so far Nikon is still considered the king of macro, but I\'m seeing a lot of the same complaints in reviews as I had with my old camera.
