Heres the second Goblin mini from Runic mini\'s, Jakob Nielsen\'s miniature line.

Loved the sculpt and loved painting it, although i had problems blending the blues (always have this problem) and getting the fish \'right\', so i just decided to call it a day.

Still though im fairly pleased with it!

Nice piece, but may I suggest you reshoot the pictures and this time only take a picture of the miniature and NOT the base plinth. 60% of your image is the plinth.. Im not voteing on a plinth..Im voting on a miniature..

Bigger better pictures = Better score.

You really have good output Matty!

I like this fig quite a bit, and you\'ve done it justice. I agree your blending of the blue is a bit rough and I\'d suggest giving that fish a glossy varnish coat.

Me go vote now!

I just can\'t seem to get blues right at all, they go chalky and i can\'t get the mid tones mixed right, but thats always been a problem iv had.

The glossy fish is a great idea, never thought of that!

Iv also painted a Dirz fella before this one, but the photographs kept getting the metallics wrong (they were washed with browns (snakebite leather mixes), which were green ??? at the wrong angle) so i didn\'t bother putting it up as it would have been slaughtered!

Really like this matty, compliments your ruffian too!

The blues look fine IMHO, and the chalhieness looks like dust around the rim of the coat. The thing I dislike is the grey areas, the highlights seem wrong and not as well done as other areas. I also feel the wig needs to be lighter, especially the curls.

A strong 7 from the orkster!

Have just ordered these guys myself! can\'t wait for them to arrive!

This figure is great fun to paint (so is the ruffian) and I can\'t recommend them highly enough.

Matty, you really are showing great quality painting considering the amount of minis you get through in such a short time. I particularly like the way you\'ve worked the skin and your colour choices too. Don\'t beat yourself up over the blues - they\'re good enough but give you something to work on too. The wood on the base could have done with a little more highlighting and his trousers could be a bit smoother (and I don\'t mean ironing!)

Another nice piece

Cheers everyone, got the camera out today and managed to take one, yes ONE, decent pic of the clone!

So here he is for voting

Really didn\'t spend alot of time on him, the plating was very boring to paint so i ended up doing a rushed job just to get it finished. Not to bad though, but definately not my best of jobs.

Well Matty I have to say a few things here.
1: You\'ve seriously improved since you started on CMON.

2: The armour looks Ok but as you are saying it\'s something you rushed I think that is where you\'ve made a mistake. The plain areas of armour give us all a great opportunity to work hard and long at making smooth transitions of tonality (like Jakob Neilsen achieves) and taking time and being willing to experiment can give great results. Chris (generulpoleaxe) has achieved great effects using Green & Purple glazes over metallics and I\'m not ashamed to say that I\'m blatently stealing his ideas. He won\'t be offended if you try them as well.

3: Sorry but the photgraph has way too much base in it. As it\'s Black it tends to overwhelm the mini and make the whole picture look \"Bottom Heavy\"

About the armour, when i paint a model, i have to want to paint it, and by the time i got round to the plating i just had no motivation to paint it well, so i thought i would just do it quickly and get it over with. The only reason i painted the model was that my brother gave it to me a few month ago, and it was just bugging me to get it done.
Will try harder next time though...honest

Hi Matty1001,
Great to see another of my minis painted up. :)

As for critique I think an area to work wit hin the future would be the shading of your minis. Higlights and blending looks ok to me, but what I think your mini could benefit from is some really dark shading - almost like black-lining although I always hated this technique. But some really dark shading in the deepest creases on the minis.

On the gobbos skin maybe a mix of red and purple ink for extreme shading. and on the blue jacket some thinned regal blue with a little dark brown (scorched brown maybe) added. Just in the deepest creases - around the nose and eyes and on the jacket along the sleves and the strap on the back.
For the metal you could also try and have a go using some of my metallic techniques from my site.

Purple on the skin! Genius! lol

The figure im working on now im using metallics so im going to follow your website tut for that, and also DR\'s advice with the glazes. I can (kind of) get the metallics right in terms of smoothness, but not using glazes, il have to start doing that.

Contrast has always been a thing for me, i always basecoat in the darkest colour and build up and rarely go back to add depth with blacklining or similar (i HATE blacklining, i don\'t know why but it has never look natural to me)

So il work on these for my next model.

O and Jakob, since i painted both of those up now, i now no longer have any of yours left...soooo.......feel free to send some my way! lol
