NMM - A daft and pretentious practice

NMM is not the same as SENMM or OSL....NMM lightsources are???? 98% the sun. Where is the sun? Waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy above the battlefield. So everyone of your small soldiers can be painted in NMM with the sam lightsource without looking odd.

My girlfriend loves me (so I hope) but under no circumstances she can understand why there are people that love it to spend a lot money on little bits of metal and plastic to paint it and to play war with.

You have to accept it. That does not bring mankind to new horizons. :drunk:

just look at rackhams studio armies :D

whole armies painted in nmm that look absoloutely stunning.

metalics are nice as well (i actualy prefer them) when done correctly.

it\'s about choice, not about telling every one they are wrong and you are right.
that job is reserved for politicians lol

YES! Go and eat your hat mister. And I want photographic/video evidence.

May I highlight the fact that, as I said above, I think that NMM models can look amazing. My main point was that they are only really worthwhile in armies, and when in armies the use of metallic paint is most appropriate.

I think it rocks.

:D

Umm, seriously, yeah... I think a whole army painted to that standard would look awesome, but I do not intend to be the person who does it (or pays to have it done for that matter).

You put a block of 25 well painted minis together in a well made tray, it is not going to matter if it is NMM or not, it is still going to look good. Even almost total crap detail painting looks good on the tabletop from playing distance. How in the world could having them painted to a higher standard make them look worse?

I honestly think you are a hobbyist who is trying desperately to hang on to your preference for playing the game from a practical standpoint while your heart is slowly being pulled inexorably towards a desire to be able to stand toe to toe with your competition paintwise as well as playwise, and this is your last bitter attempt to keep yourself from diving into NMM\'s full bore.

Join the Dark Side....

So what is the point in this thread? To say there is no point in painting single models for display? If so, why post it on this site?

Seriously, I used to hate NMMs as well. But then I let the urge take over and tried it.

EDIT: Does your view mean that my latest model was just a waste of time, because it isn\'t part of a huuuge army? Damn, it was my best model as well! lol

You miss my point. I think it looks pretty, but a handful of expertly painted toy soldiers are silly. An army is cool. [/quote]

??????????????
If you ask me individual models painted to a high standard and using varying and increasing levels of skill be it NMM or metallic to create detailed works of art adds a little credence to this hobby......
pretending the models are an army and are actually soldiers while bouncing dice around that (that are actually Bullets) on an area that to scale is generally about the size of 4 football pitches is silly....

but that\'s my opinion...

 You have read me like a book.

I\'ve just put together a fine looking Khorne Champion, with the intention of painting him as my first experiment in SENMM, (which, as I have said, can look stunning when done correctly, and is viewed from the ideal angle). But I feel I am selling out my principles - without an army to lead, he is pointless and pathetic.

Think of it like the real life military through history....
The bizarres pretentious and ott uniforms of the officer class and the ill fitting drab colours of the regular grunts.....

I didn\'t see any armies by following that link, only a lot of single minis. Sorry to be a pain but I would like a direct link.
