NMM - A daft and pretentious practice

 I\'ll ignore that...for now...

Yeah I think I was going to say, It\'s all about the art.
I don\'t paint for the sake of colouring in, I like to push my limits and try new things.
If in the end I end up with a nice bit of NMM then i\'ll be pretty proud I managed to achieve that!
This is why I can appreciate so many other peoples work.

lmao Cockney cock puncher lol
Oh god thats funny

I just get this feeling that you sat there and thought up this thread. Then emailed all your buddies and with a link and said something to the effect of, hey watch me piss off all the people at Coolmini!

Why would you even bother coming on this site, registering for an account, and actually posting anything on the forums? There are hundreds of sites out there dedicated to gaming with lots of other gamers who would probably love to join your band against well painted minis and boring armies. The only reason at all to even bother posting is to get some attention and stir the pot.

Even the best painted mini is still only a three centimetre high, oddly proportioned piece of finely sculpted pewter - just one isn\'t all that impressive, except as a display of technical skill. A superbly painted and converted model ought to lead a finely painted army onto the field of battle, otherwise it is just an effeminate trinket!

There\'s no point in having your general painted to reflect a single light source, when you\'re going to be viewing him from all sides during the game. I also recommend that the hobbyist use a nice bright colour so he doesn\'t get lost amid all that flock.

Size matters. NMM looks nice, but if its not part of a large army, who cares how fancy it looks?

If you don\'t care much about how a painted mini looks, then why waste valuable bandwith posting your painted minis on CMON?

welllllll....i dont really like nmm either, and i find that people who are in to it do tend to be pretentious. just as much work, and skill goes in to metallics as does nmm, but people dismiss it as amatureish. i remember one commenter said\"if you can paint something that good with metallic paints, you can make something truly stunning using NMM!\" about one of my minis.

i prefer to use every tool at my diposal, and metallics are one such tool. imho, if i use non metallic colors to paint metallic regions im limiting my palate in other places.

to be frank, you nmmers often do come of as pretentious. i dont support the other facets of his arguement, however...

Oh what a shame, my entire collection is pointless shinies *bawl*

I was about to say the same thing. Think of all the time I\'ve wasted!

I paint my thumb.
I don\'t get it, is it a thread about
Metallic vs. nmm
or Display vs. Tabletop...
Gaming vs painting ?

I can both see the hobby as something crative and artistic that makes me happy when I do it and produces real art pieces which only downside is that they have to be looked from close to be appreciated.
On the othe hand, I can see it a something futile, geeky, marginal and a turn-off for most chicks.
I\'ll be much happier if I stick to the first definition.

What do you base that on? ??? I can\'t name anyone with the opinion that NMM is above real metallics. I know lots of people, myself included, who enjoys painting NMM more than metallics, but I don\'t know anyone who\'s actually holding NMM above metallics.

@vincegamer
No, I don\'t refer to THAT as a \"mini\"! ;)

that\'s a nonsense, to say people who like NMM are pretentious because some have made comments. That would be like me saying all who prefer metallics are pretentious because some comment negatively on NMM (which they do as well).

If you prefer real metallics - cool - whatever floats your boat, to dismiss EVERYONE who uses prefers NMM is simple arrogance.

Oh and I use mainly metallics myself.

i personally think everyone just was looking for a reason to use the words daft and pretentious in the same sentence.

:)

anyhoo it doesnt bother me on what you paint. the fact of the matter is that nmm and osl and senmm are all interesting and new ways to change and force those to work out of the normal boundaries we were used to in painting during hte 90\'s. now we have the french and spanish who are reinventing the idea of miniatures with even different ways of painting. it seems we are now entering a more realistic and \"cool\" color period in the world of miniatures and i am glad to welcome each new thing as it comes.

i NEVER said ALL nmmers were pretentious, just that it was a trend ive noticed. minis painted in nmm tend to be rated higher, irrespective of the talent level of the artist (that is not to say that there arent minis painted in metallics that have a higher rating). giving a mini a higher rating merely because a specific (elitest) technique was used, irrespective of talent, is pretentious, whether its concious or not. personally i could care less, but you shouldnt jump all over this guy for a \"feeling\" thats definately out there (whether its intentional or not). so .... no one has ever remarked on your use of metallics with a negative connotation? good for you.

regardless of whether its true or not, it feels like it is.
blah blah blah high contrast nmm....whatever, the principles are the same as those of metallics, to the finest detail, but people always make this huff like its different, when really its only the colors used that have changed.
even in this very thread comments have been made about how it takes soooooo much longer to paint nmm than it does to paint in metallics, but NO ONE HERE HAS CORRECTED THAT STATEMENT (while simultaniously refuting several equally rediculous negative statements about nmm). why? because its a popularly held belief that more time goes in to nmm than metallics. that my frends, smacks of elitism.

as a community, greater appreciation seems to be lavished on well painted minis with nmm. while im sure WE all appreciate each technique equally  it seems like many of the less experienced painters are wooed by nmm.

and to clarify: im not against the technique at all, many of my favorite pieces are painted in nmm (see my favorites). its just that when i paint, i prefer to limit my use of the technique to objects which would be nmm IRL (clothing, art etc).

Cock punches generally don\'t rain down, they thrust up, although there are other angles of attack that can be employed by the cunning cock puncher to ensure they fly in from all directions.
