that is a dang good tutorial. Fortuitous timing, too, as I'm about to paint a bunch of chains wrapped round some dude's arm and was hoping to use NMM. Ta verra mucho

NMM ChainMail is relatively simple in comparison to Plate or Scale Armour in NMM.
Paint it exactly the same way you'd paint folds of cloth, because in essence it's as mobile as cloth and its "flow dynamics" should echo the underlying shape.
Therefore the highlighting should match the curvature of the underlying shape exactly the same.
