NMM Chainmail

How should one attempt to do NMM chainmail?
I reckon there are two types of chainmail sculpt and I spose you\'d have to do it differently for both:
1) the cloth is carved and then holes are poked evenly through out - (like that Chainmail 2handed sword guy) giving the illusion of chainmail or
2) like most quality figures (reaper et al)there are actual links carved in seperately.
Dont much care for the first but in the second: fo you paint each link seperately leaving black between each? then do the dark grays and build up to white - then that white, at the tops of the links? bottom? or highlight the shape of the chain cloth? leave all the links in the recessed un-highlighted with white?
Know what I\'m talking about? Anyone seen good examples of nmm chain on here?

actually i did somme NMM gold on the chains of my dark eldar hellion . i took my darkest color an painted it all throught leaving the holes black (primer) and then i started to highlight on the to of my chain.

i would rather rocommend if you have the courage (and time ) to blend each and evey little circle to do it like this

assume this is your circle the star(*) is actually the \"white\" spot or if you want your last color and the percentage is where your blending should come from .

Then to have realistic NMM youll have to the right key four your color depending on the surface

excuse me the circle didnt worked quite well

let me explain it: if your blending at the right starts from above then it has to stopon the horizon line. and if you do so your blending at the left should come from below and stop on the same horizon line from the first.

so it is kind of a ying yang

This depends entirly on the chainmail. Some things people call chainmail is actually scale mail, like the armor of GW High Elves. I do scale mail like I do normal metal, but I give each one a different color leading up to the highlight to make a mirror effect.

As for the round chainmail, I simply drybrush and use only a bit highlight here and there for effect. Hope this helps!
