NMM example; what went wrong?

OK, here\'s a (work in progress) Pirate Chef I tried a NMM on. I don\'t think the NMM effect worked out, but I can\'t put my finger on why. So I am hoping someone can look at the picture and give me some feedback on what went wrong.

The picture is #24451 if this link doesn\'t work. Thanks for any feedback you can give; I\'ve just come to a roadblock as far as ideas for how to fix the cleaver!

hmmm... first of all your picture is very blurry, so it\'s difficult to take a decent look at the model.

Anyway, I think the NMM effect on the left (front of mini) is okay. The other side of the blade looks a bit strange indeed... I think this is caused by the bottom edge of the blade, which has exactly the same color as the earth... since this seems hollow, an inverted SENMM effect would look nice I think.

I find the overall effect quite convincing on the front shot.

The back view might need you to move the lower reflection more towards the tip of the blade, covering a similarily sized area as the front shot. Apply some judicious line highlights to those same lower regions of the blade and you are golden. Note of advice, make sure the horizon is angled the same in both sides. Otherwise, it;s kinda jarring to the eye \'cuz, even if nothing seems amiss, the brain just does not register the image as right. Love the idea of adding the apron to the reflection on the front shot.

It appears that the cleaver is angled \"up\" in the back view. The reflection sould be sky, not earth/sky. The horizon line does not match anything and throws the brain off (unless he is standing in front of a cliff).

Not meaing to sound wise-a$$, just trying to help.

Airhead may be right, but looking at the picture I can\'t tell what the angle of the blade is...

The other comments above are pretty much what I have to say, but to fix the back, here\'s what you should do: Since the face is pointing up, it sould be all blue, and the edge is angled down, so it should be the ground color.

BTW: I\'ve noticed several top ranking minis that have their S-E NMM wrong like this, but I\'m not naming names...

I think I know what you mean; I\'ll say that I did my NMM more by looking at what other people had done than by reading the theoretical articles. Its a lot easier to look at paint than to talk about paint! ;-)

Bingo!

Chrispy and Gizzard is right!

Somehow it still looks good but (no offence) seriously ridiculous.

Once, i took a knife (6\" swiss knife) to the fields and held it in several different positions to try to emulate the SE-NMM effects that i had seen on most pics.

What I see in reality begs to differ from some of the pics posted.

No offence, seriously, but give it a try if you doubted it.
