NMM on flat swords/metal surfaces

Hi All,
I know this is not a new topic, but I\'ve hit a brick wall and cannot seem to progress.

I\'m having a bear of a time trying to get NMM working on a blade(sword). I\'ve got the armor looking good, but the blade
is the ugly child. It\'s just not happening.
I\'m going for a clean blade look but all it ends up looking is like a stone sword.

Any body has any advice or tutorials you all can point my way.

Thanks in advance,
Xavier

well, who said it has to be flat? sometimes where a static technique is the norm i feel the needd to do someting strange
consider the chainsaw blade of my zombie hunter
my point is, use your creativity and do something different if you get stuck. otherwise i suggest something really contrasty with \"hotspots.\" consider this mini by ericj (on my favorites list)

@ Funnymouth: thanks for the advice, Currently the figure I\'m painting has a flat sword. Where I\'m having trouble is trying to simulate reflected light off the sword sincei t has no curves to take advantage of.

BTW excellent samples

Maybe a picture would be nice to get a look athe mini and the flat sword.
Take a look at the NMM tutorials on CMON.

However the reflection depends how the mini hold the sword. Up to the sky or down to the ground. For instance the sword points to the sky the metal nearer to the ground is brighter and the top is darker.

I would suggest to search for a similar mini of one of the top painters and take a look there.
