NMM. Why?

There\'s the answer. All the people who are suggestion people use NMM highlighting techniques with metallic paints.

If you haven\'t been, you haven\'t been properly highlighting your metallic paint.
And that\'s why it doesn\'t look as good.

Now, I do think we need to cut out the SENMM. It\'s over-used. Go find something with a lot of chrome. See if you can see many clear SE reflections.

anyway, I digress, I don\'t really want to talk about flashy chrome SENMM. Just the regular stuff done properly.

As far as placing highlights go, there should be no difference between using grey, or using metallics.

do the metalics make real highlights that mess with the SE highlights?

Well, I don\'t have the mini anymore, but as I recall, the hilights from the metallics were only enhanced by the SE stuff. When doing this, though, I\'ve found it\'s more useful to accent the shadows rather than the hilights. The sheen of the metallics kinda take care of that, but to me it seems that it\'s hard to get a good shadow depth with normal metallic paints.

Of course, it all boils down to technique, and I really think that either NMM or SEM done well is better than simply sticking with \"only metallics\" or \"only NMM\" just because. I think the point is to experiment with different techniques, and find what works best for you, and for the piece you\'re working on.

Is this metallic or NMM? I can\'t actually tell! I assume it is NMM but maybe it isn\'t...??? Its amazing either way.

Kat

I\'ve seen it IRL... It\'s metal...

Nice, but I guess it is easier to get them that smooth at this larger scale.

OHNOS! I might get a papercut! But I have the power of lead poisoning, and my orcs and goblins are POINTY!!!! lol

haha.. I was into magic from beta through homelands or so (while I was in college), and it was loads of fun - but the the market got saturated and now there are scary entities like Yu-gi-oh which is a card game, with a cartoon.. about kids playing a card game. ;) Extreme marketing right there

oh ya, well my double spirit-linked plauge spitter doesn\'t even need to attack to hurt you and get me life at the same time!

Sorry, I\'ve been into nearly every geeky hobby since 5 when I discovered Pokemon. Now that has been over marketed! Kind of like mario was back in his day, but how three japaneese game designers made an Italian plumber famous world wide is a mistery to my. Hey look I\'ve just derailed my own post. Go me!

hmmm,

Spirit Link used to be one of my favorite cards. This was before I stopped playing the game as I realised it was too damn expensive for what was really just printed cardboard lol (ah yeah like miniatures aren\'t expensive hehe).

I have posted a few mini\'s on CMON and until recently never got better than a 6.5 score (after 50 + votes) and I had only ever used metallic paint before. The last mini I painted and posted was on 7.2 (after over 50 + votes) last time I checked. I tried NMM for the first time ever on my last posted mini. I had jumped 0.7 in my score for my highest scoring mini from my last. I am not sure why. I don\'t think my NMM was particularly good, and it was my first attempt at the technique ever. I don\'t see how I could say I have improved enough between two miniatures to have jumped a whole 0.7 points (although I\'d love to say I did hehe). Perhaps the 0.7 gain could be attributed to a new digital camera? Perhaps it could be down to the fact that people prefer NMM to metallics..... Perhaps it was partly the camera and partly NMM. I have no idea. I can\'t say I am very good at NMM but by using it I may have jumped 0.7 points on CMON (in terms of my highest scoring mini not my rank). I don\'t think I have improved enough over a couple of mini\'s to gain an increase in score. Perhaps it was just down to a better camera, or perhaps it was a better choice of mini? I dunno......

Anyway enough waffle... I have seen stunning examples of NMM and Metallics. I can appreciate both. How\'s that for sitting on the fence? lol

Like my brother said when I proudly showed him my first attempt at NMM: \"So the purpose of NMM is to make it look more like plastic?\"lol

I too am guilty of posting not-so-good NMM painted models on this site and I agree with calabdark that some of us still have to learn the technique and post these pictures to get some useful comments. Also sometimes I use grays instead of metallics to get a more comic-book like appearance to my mini\'s. In my army I experiment with both techniques (sometimes on the same model!).
