No Banksy

They have painted over one of his works, apparently a famous one (although I\'ve never seen it, I don\'t think it was one of his best).

You should read his book. That specific painting is there. First in this version.. then painted over.. then with Vincent and Jules in Banana costumes instead! lol

He probably told the council that they had to pay him the current fee a Banksy original sells for (one billion dollars!) to continue exhibiting it and when they refused painted over it himself.

Don\'t get me wrong, I like the dude\'s work, but I think he\'s become a tad too commercially viable to get away with some of the messages he tries to portray in his stuff, however much I might agree with them. A victim of his own success if you like.

They did it somewhere else aswell, i think it was Bristol. The council ordered it to be painted over, but they didn\'t realise it was protected, so they got a massive fine lol

He\'s like Ben Elton and Billy Connelly IMO.

Sell outs...:innocent:

Who wouldn\'t though? I would...

I had this conversation the other day and, the only person we could think of who hadn\'t \'sold out\' was Paul Weller...

Anyone think of any more?

Oh hell yeah, I\'d sell out in a second!

Weller as a musical non-sellout, yeah, perhaps, although he\'s kinda got it made being the Modfather. All he has to do is worry about the height of his hair!

I\'m tempted to go for Morrisey too. He was always and will always be a miserable git who hates everyone and fame doesn\'t seem to have changed that! Zappa perhaps? Dylan\'s an interesting one, because he was fairly exploitative with his early decisions and became less of a sell out as time went on.

I have to say David Lynch. Sure, he\'s had a lot of benefits come his way through fame, but he\'s always stayed true to his artistic vision, head spinning films and love of coffee during that time, all three of which hit a note with me!

They had a public voting that decided that it should stay.

An article about it

afaik what he has done is sold som originals and prints. + That an actual house was auctioned off.. Something that it was a mural that came with an attached house! lol

Why does everyone that critcise anything always have to be saints themselves? You can\'t be unaltered by a system your borned into. Autonomy is a naive dream that can lead to secterism and most often to a very rude awakening later in life. Purity is a myth, integrity for loners. Hypocricy the only way to survive, remain sane and actually make a difference...

World is full of cynics that used to be concerned people. It\'s easier just to shut off and censor out sometimes.

I got his book a couple of months ago (I really like it), and I saw one of his stencils - the one with the kid writing something on the wall in pink paint - in London. It\'s quite interesting to see how he kind of filtered through, some of his art was on the cover of Blur\'s album Think Tank, and on a book by Graham Marks called How It Works - and he was uncredited on each of them, he was just like a random graffiti artist. In fact, the book says \"cover photography by Graham Marks\"! lol He wrote in the back of the book that he saw it one day and thought it\'d be perfect for the book, then the next day it had been painted over. Doubt it\'d happen so quickly these days.

I\'d say Julian Cope has fairly impeccable integrity.

It\'s subjective I know, but IMO he had f*ck all to sell!:innocent:

A total waste of air..:bouncy:

In fact, if we are plumbing those depths, I\'d have to add John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett, but like Mr Cope, they never really had much to sell:D
