No macro! - what to do?

my friends digital camera has no macro function. but it is all that i have available.

how would be the best approch for taking a shot of a mini without a macro function?
is it much different to a camera with a macro?

Without a macro, I wouldn\'t bother. Scanning the miniature on a flatbed scanner would produce better results.

Yep, don\'t even try it, it simply won\'t work...
A flatbed scanner is indeed a very good alternative (take a look at my minis, they were scanned).
