No more Mister Nice Guy...problems with a Comssion Client

I just need to vent,

I picked sold some stuff on E-bay and one of the guys who won (and paid prompty) decided he wanted me to paint up some figs for him. I quoted him the price (180) for the 8 figures. He told me he wanted me to pick them up for him. While I was born at night, it was not last night so i agreed on the condition that he pay for them and I would pick them up. He paid no problem.

Well the Whimpy excuses started up (you know \"I\'ll pay you thursday for a burger today\" and stuff like that. he promised he would pay by the end of the month...guess what no payment.

So here is where I am at. From now I am demanding all clinets put 1/2 before I even start a job. I am sure this will turn some away. Untill now I have not charged untill the job was done (I have never had a problem with this for over 50 clients).

I plan to send him a letter letting him know he has until the 15th then he forfits the figures and I can do with what I want with them. The thing is even though I am a decent painter I know I will not be getting for them what I had hopped and there is the chance he could win them through the auction thus cheating me.

Another part of me wants to box up the figures without bubblewrap, or padding, give the box a good shake and send them off. It would suck, but feel good in the end.

Being there, done that. Sell locally if you can... it is much much easier, and you can always beat up the guy for non-payment. Btw, I learned it hard way but you can cancel bid of this dude if you know his account

Been there, done that... got me a guy like that. First time i painted for him it was fine. the second time... i had to wait almost a year to get payed. he made excuses about girfriend problems, car issues, new job... so i let it slide.
So he comes to me a again, wanting some stuff painted. he whines for a day over the cost i quoted, in fact a lot of locals seem to think $20 is too much to pay. So i agree to paint for him again with the agreement that he doesn\'t make me wait a year to get payed. So here it is about 14 months later and still not payed for the minis and for the last 8 months i haven\'t heard a word from him. Amazingly as soon as i emailed him and said contact me back or i ebay the figures... he contacted me back the next day.

Every commission job i\'ve ever done I always got the full amount up front. When I have gotten questions like \"what if I don\'t like the paint job?\" I usually tell them that ill take the mini back, strip the paint and give it back to them to do as they please and refund their money. Never had a complaint about a paint job. I learned from watching a friend get screwed out of several hundred dollars for an army he painted and never got paid for, he sold the minis piece by piece but made only a fraction of what he should have.

I kinda know that feeling.
I helped out a couple of people by buying items for them at Salute last year and sending them on. One was supposed to be a trade, one a paypal deal once I\'d got the figures purchased (yeah Ok Dumb on my part).

Didn\'t even get the courtesy of a thank you or acknowledgement of receipt from one and the other person has dropped off the face of the earth.

Now I only do trades with People I know and trust.
