No new codices my butt!

They are redoing the Tyrannid codex (see latest WD), which means we have new ones for Chaos Marines, Imperial guard, Space marines and Tyrannids and we know they are gonna do the Eldar as well.

So much for not needing new codices with the new 40K.

Ah no you see you dont actually \"Need\" them.
You will just find them more erm...navigable and easy to use and updated cool pictures.....yeah cool pictures thats it...as they\'ve painted a whole bunch of stuff since they came out first time round. The quality of painting you\'d hope they have painted a lot.
Erm better layout? erm........help me out here........bah dont bother who am I trying to fool. More fool me for really believing I wouldnt need new codeces for a brief moment of ignorant bliss. Grr...

Though with the nids I did hear with my very ears that the Gordon bloke from studio wants to change the Hive Tyrant. Was a while ago so if this happens I know not.

Of course they\'re gonna re-release codices! Some of the armies will have become so unbalanced, they\'ll be next to unplayable (How convenient!). GW are a bunch of scrimshanking mercenaries in case you hadn\'t noticedlol

You don\'t need new codices to play 40k, it\'s just that GW needs to put out new codices to make more money, something that they are a hell of a lot better at than the company I work for.

Depends on which set of codices you are referring to. I believe they are re-evaluating the rules for the armies in the somewhat near future, but the more recent codex \"updates\" include a new heading on the cover. That is the extent of the update; I even compared the tyranid codices! They are the EXACT same, same pictures, same rules, same wording, same format. No changes excluding the cover heading.

Umm...

The new Tyranid codex coming out next spring will be different. They\'re fixing some of the broken rules and redoing a lot of the crappier minis. It\'s true their last codex was pretty recent, but it was just on the edge of what then became 4th edition certified codexes.

Their are certain things that definitely need fixing in the tyrannid codex.

One of the biggest that springs to mind is the use of rippers with rending claws.

There are also various other things, the fact that gargoyles are cheaper than any winged gaunt variant you can get, raveners never see the light of day, and so on.

Also they want to bring out some more plastic models as far as I can tell, and the best way to justify this is to redo the rules.

After all, the Ultramarines got a revamp.

They\'ve talking about revamping the codexes for a long time. We saw that with the Dark Angels and Dark Eldar codex.
If they didn\'t change the codexes people would complain that they were unfair. If they do, they will be called liars. Damned if you do. Damned if you don\'t.lol

Its more the fact that they made such a big deal of \"Your old codex will be legal with the new 4th ed\", which is pointless if they bring out new codices.

I\'m all for new codices if they improve and streamline things, by all accounts the new marine codex is great.

some need help others don\'t

They always have to keep their precious marines desirable. It is as many have said, to sell more product. I don\'t mind, as long as they put in something useful.
I just wish that they would playtest the stuff to make it truely even. I have yet to see an ork player that has a chance against Necrons ( which is my army, and rather cheesey). IMHO they need to give each army a counter attack to most of the new weapons of mass destruction. The new rules help with being able to shoot Tau and Necron Heavy Support in the back row, but most old armies can\'t compete with the newer studs with invincible this and that and I prayed to sh1+, but only farted.
The new codex army is usually the end all be all until the next new codex. Poor orcs.

Ah the good old \"GW are bastards and after my money\" theme.

Look, if they didn\'t occassionally update the codex\'s they\'d hear no end of complaining. Plus, i\'ve never heard anyone claim that the old Chaos, Guard or Space Marine codex\'s were better than the new ones...
When they said your codex would be compatable, it is. What they indended was that noone would sudddenly find themselves with an army without rules facing the prospect of a 3 year wait to have a full army list again.
GW does not real profit on Rulebooks or Codex\'s [If you need real proof of that, compare the number of book releases with any large RPG manufacturor, to make money on books, you need one a month minimum unless you want to be a small scale outfit.]

I\'ve grown to hate the phrase cheesey when referring to someone\'s army. I have seen several Ork players beat Necrons. I think some of the responsibility should fall on the commander\'s shoulders too.

Hell, I\'m spending £1000 a year on GW anyway, I have no objection to a few no codices. A lot of the basic armies need to be more customisable anyway. Like the Eldar and Orks.
