Nominations for BEST OF.....Wizard Edition.

So, nominate your favorite Wizard/Mage/Magic User/Witch Doctor/Etc.

Here's the rules:

You nominate with a picture of your favorite wizard sculpt, it should be a 'stock' figure. NOT a heavily converted or a one off. The pic can show a painted version.

It can be from any manufacturer, any scale, any race, and any 'genre' (a sci-fi version of a 'wizard' is fine for instance)

It just has to be one widely available (or at one time that way)

All the acceptible pics will be colated into a POLL, where we choose our favorite.

Well I never got one vote for my fav ork (still think GW orks are great) anyway as for wizards I was going to go for GW Gandalf (big fan of LOTR even before the films were ever made) but after looking at the mini long and hard I came to the conclusion perhaps the mini is not that great afterall. So I went with this one from Dark sword. It speaks for itself, just as wizardy as a wizard can get!

I vote for this bust of Gandalf by Sideshow Collectibles sculpted by the mega amazing "TrevSolo" on Deviantart. Link to his account there after the photo - check his gallery out you wont be disappointed. The reason I put it forward is because of the amazing accuracy of the likeness.

Well, resisting the temptation to post pictures of Alyson Hennigan, I am going with another Rackham sculpt of Misan the Clairvoyant.

Reapers Mousling Wizard...too cute not to vote for him, really. He's the one on the left with the pointy hat, of course.

I was tempted to vote for the Harry Potter resembling Wizards Apprentice but ^ that's just too good to pass up.

Do Witches count or will that be a vote on it's own?

I got stuck on the Orc one as I knew the generation of sculpts I wanted to nominate but didn't find nice pictures swiftly enough (read: didn't put enough effort in). This time I'm just going with the first one that occurred to me for reasons of liking it rather than nostalgia :) I'm still happy after a weekend pondering so here you go...

CitadelWizards-Witch-CC881202-07.jpg

...Citadel Wizard series from 1988ish, I don't know if she was ever named, the catalogue image just has her as 1202-7 but I think that's an ordering code rather than a production one....

..I assume sculpted by Aly Morrison rather than either of the Perrys. I know she's a Witch though as it's written on the tab.

Why am I nominating an ancient mini that I don't have good pics of & is hardly a paragon of sculpting skill? The threat. I find her really, really scary. Any DM that can't write an adventure around her should pass their DMG to someone else & knock up a Paladin to play instead :D No giant staff of magical awesomeness, just a stout stick. No fancy hats or gewgaws or skullz, just three masks. It creeps me out & fires the imagination in a way that yet another Gandalf clone, no matter how nicely produced, fails to do. I may even dare to paint her one day :D

Cheers, B.
