Non metalic Metals

I am starting to paint the new warhammer dwarves. Metals is one of the thing I dislike painting just because it\'s so hard to get a nice effect compared to normal colours. I was thinking of trying non metalic metals for the first time in this dwarf army. I have never done this and I was wondering if anyone had tips for me.

I would love tips on how to make gold and silver with normal colours, I figure the silver is grey and white built up but I have no idea how to do a nice gold. Are any washes used? I use citadel paints so any tips with those paints would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

Also, I\'d recommend doing a search on these forums for NMM. You\'ll find that this question has been raised countless times, and there\'s a wealth of knowledge out there.

What you probably won\'t find without looking real hard is the actual colors to use, so you might have to improvise, or find the closest substitute.

But to answer the wash question, yes, you can use washes. No, you don\'t have to :)

Ok..

I searched both this forum and the link you gave me and I did find interesting articles. I do undestand the concept of lighting and where to put the highlights but I couldn\'t find that much info on which Citadel Paints to use. I guess a pretty good one here http://uk.games-workshop.com/spacemarines/painting-chaplains/5/

But thats about it. If anyone has suggestions or knows of a good site let me know! Thanks a lot.

I have to say, that if you are doing an army, then don\'t do NMM, it\'ll take forever and probably look rubbish*


* depends upon whether your name is Cyril or something like that, in which case go ahead and churn out a complete army of amazingly painted minis in a week.

I gave NMM a try and I am really happy with how it turned out, it does take a lot longer but I also think it looks very nice. Im not in any race, I just want to do it to the best of my capabilities. I really love how NMM looks so I might try it for a unit!

Im a little dissapointed, the gold looks too cartoonish on the dwarfs. I like the silver but I am painting longbeards and I dont think Im good enough yet to use the same colours for the beard and the chainmail and make a good contrast. Its a good technique but maybe ill stick with metals for the dwarves, I dont know anymore!
