Unfortunately, both Russia and China (and South Korea for that matter) have several major population center in the general area, otherwise I would seriously consider nuking couple of targets. I understand that the loss of human lives would be imminent but I am afraid that we are close to the point when loosing 10-20 thousands now could be better then loosing 100-200 thousands later. Unfortunately math like this never works, therefore we proceed doing nothing and loose these 100-200 thousands in the end anyway.
The funny part is that legally USA could do it because if North Korea formally denounce the truce regime, it means that USA/South Korea are in a state of war. What I want to see them do, however is to announce denunciation formally, not just during some semi-coherent and half-hysterical speech.
The whole NKorea situation is quite scary to me. Sure it is probably just attention seeking/scare mongering, but they have nukes now too. And the problem with nuking them first is you lose all ability to complain if they hit back, but it doesnt seem as if sanctions/UN resolutions/tough talking has achieved anything either.

What scares me is the idea that Kim might be losing control of his own people. Politics in a military dictatorship always suck most for those people at the top, and I don\'t doubt that Kim will at least consider doing something rash and stupid to show his generals that he still has the oompah (yes, you heard me) to run the country.
Then, of course, there is the equally scary idea that one of said generals might do something rash as a first move in consolidating power.
The only response I can think of to this is raise a real heavy hammer above them, but don\'t drop it until they have made their move. That, and maybe avoid traveling to the peninsula for a while...

This is a storm that\'s been brewing for years. Personally I think Kim is trying to hold onto power and be the tough guy while all around him falls apart. Certainly when the bullets and bombs start dopping, yes that\'s when not if, South Korea will suffer hardest. The North have little to lose except their soldiery and starving populace. Let\'s face it the world will be only too eager to step in and help the suffering North when they\'ve lost the war and Kim and his cronies have gone. The only fly in the ointment is the nuclear one. How deliverable is the North\'s device? Just because they\'ve been testing delivery systems doesn\'t mean they can marry the two together, yet. And of course what type of device, how \'dirty\' is it in regard to the region being able to receive post conflict aid due to contamination. Then of coure if it is particularly dirty how far will the fallout spread...
What would I do? Not saying just in case one of Kim\'s buddies is reading this. Being ex-military I wouldn\'t want to give any ideas for defence away

Russia giving $1 billion USD worth of uranium to USA....check
Japan not happy about having missiles flying over them...check
NK threatening safety of any and all naval vessels and declaring shipping lines to not be safe within their \"range\"...check
WWIII the nuclear war anyone? Iran and NK, vs everyone else?
It would be funny if Somalian pirates try to hijack a vessel in that area and NK takes them out thinking it is a Chinese, Japanese or US related cargo vessel. lol

If Kim does Nuke someone, the rest of the \"World\" is going to come down on NK with a vengeance.I don’t believe China is going to sit by and wait for a missile coming their way.
Afterward the Nuclear Club is going to make sure none of the smaller head case countries ever get close to making a bomb that can be carried by long-range missiles.

if you look into history you will see that this is how ww1 started slightly different in that it was an assasination that toppled the first domino but they all fell. nk has treatys with china, russia so nuking them is out of the equastion as is any military action that doesnt involve the ruskys n chinese, the arse could drop clean out of south east asia very soon, we just need to hope we dont get on the receiving end of some of these weapons

The most likely people NK will nuke is NK. They don\'t have an effective delivery system to threaten anyone else.
This is not a world war by any stretch. That would be your typical scenario of limited nuclear engagement. When it was considered between Soviet Union and USA people were laughing at because there would be nothing \"limited\" about it. In this case however - the number of nukes NK has is very much limited...so in case of all out limited engagement assuming that they deliver all they have and it all actually detonate we are talking about ~100-200 thousands upon detonation, plus 5-10 times of this (depending on area, type of use and a number of other confounding factors)within 5 years after.

yeah but chances are the \"complaint\" will be long, cylindical, self propelled and tiped with a warhead. from my limited (read:ignorant) view of the situation, it sems that once a nuke is fired war is inevitable, as whos going to take the death of thousands of their citizens on the chin?

I\'m seriously wondering if China\'s going to support North Korea, as they used to do.
China\'s growing economy is now so dependant on \"Western\" investment and trade that any \'action\' would destroy their growing economy.
Having said that didn\'t China & NK have a very \"Heated\" falling out a few years ago, so relations might not be as cordial as they used to be.

why someone hasn\'t \"dusted\" the oily little prev. is beyond me ???i understand that general....but thats what scares me. look at david koresh, or that leader of the alien people who all killed themselves and wore reeboks. he may be pushed into a corner, but i tell you one thing, if i\'m pushed into a corner and know that i\'m going out the first thing i am gonna do is try to take you out to. yes we will win the war if we get into it, but at a huge price. not to mention the possibility of nuclear bombs decimating the region. thats why it scares me.
lets put it this way, asia is starting to look a lot like pakistan.
