Not a miniature, but mini related...

Some of you know when I picked up a brush about 3 or so years ago, I didn\'t have any art training. In the past 9 months, I\'ve been training with a tutor (an ex Marvel/DC artist) to help me learn how to draw a bit....

Anyway...cuttin\' to the chase----
I did this little drawing this weekend---inspired by one of EricJ\'s minis that I\'ve always liked.
I figured I\'d share and hope for a little affirmation of my progress.

From not being able to draw stick figures to this in nine months---I feel like I\'ve made a bit of progress....

Cheers,
Kev

really nice Kev! looks like you really captured the piece and the nmm in this looks great. Seems like this would be a great help in helping understand all the proper placement of highlights and such on a mini as well.

When I first saw it, I thought for a moment you had just photoshopped out the base of the mini...then I realized you just hadn\'t drawn all the way down to the base

Yep. I\'m hoping to take some of this back to miniature painting---and some of it already has come back. I\'ve got a few pieces on the bench that I\'m really stoked about. I\'m already seeing some significant improvements.
I\'m going to be doing some more in-depth 2d work as well---and ultimately moving to oil work in 2d. The color mixes here equate to paint more readily than I would have originally thought----basically the same thought processes---so that was cool.

This particular one was done on toned paper with pastel pencil. A nice little exercise. The pastels are quick---about 3 1/2 hours to complete this from sketch to finish.

I\'ve got one of Tagron\'s pieces that I put together like this, too---the Halo warrior---but I figured I\'d spare flooding the mini community with my pencil stuff....:D

I was just pretty excited when I finished these this weekend...as it\'s been a really long haul. I\'ve been doing nothing but pencil gestures for the past 8 months-----it was getting a bit tedious...lol

Nice drawing, looks like those lessons are really paying off! When I started painting minis I actually found my drawing skills helped more than my painting skills... probably because I tend to paint big (6\' b7 4\' is my canvas of choice) and draw small (got a thing for fiddly details, like celtic knotwork). I keep telling my boyfriend that he could paint as well as anyone, all he needs is fine motor skills and patience, and he keeps telling me he has neither, and why should he acquire them since I paint his cool stuff for him!
