This is my barbarian.
Say hello, barbarian.
As you can see he is wearing a chainmail thingy on his butt. Now I have the strange feeling that it actually looks kinda like metal if you squint. Which is moderately good. How would I go about it to make it look more metal-y without having to squint? Remember that I have not yet varnished, so \"reduce that sheen\" will be taken care of whenever the mini is done.
(Yes, I know about the little spillover on his leg. I got careless with the wash and will remedy this situation as soon as possible.)

Thank you in advance.

To make it look more metallic, add a brighter highlight to the highest bits - ie the bits at the top of the curves of the folds. Add them in a line that follows the folds from top to bottom.... this should add a nice metal-y look :)

Yes, what Beelzebrush said! I would also make those lines (of pure white) slowly vanish into what you have now the closer to the belt you get. So, the white spots would be quite distinct near the lower edge of the chainmail and then less and less so the higher up towards the belt you get.

sod the chainmail deal with the sword - it looks very flat and desparately needs more highlighting and shading!!

i like the boots...

That might have something to do with the fact that I have not yet highlighted and shaded it :D

Thanks everyone, but in fact I already used white as the extreme highlights.... ahem. Maybe I should make it more pronounced, it seems I have used it too sparingly. New pictures tomorrow maybe ;)

How \'bout this:

It\'s just mail by the way, chainmail is a tautology. Just a few spots of pure white for highlights and a little more shadowing in the recesses and under the back (since it will look a little flatter when matt varnished). While I was at it I suggested some highlighting for the sword.

Good photo incidentally, lit well and with a good tonal range.

HA! You think I\'m going to paint now? I\'ll just upload the picture you photoshopped :p

Seriously, great job! Did you do this by hand or is it a filter I have not yet found? Also, which program did you use?
And now to practice blending like a madman....

Danke. It was done with the \"Add Cool NMM\" filter, you can download it from here lol

It was done by hand in Photoshop, even used a mouse because I was too lazy to get my pad out from under the joystick it\'s sitting under.

Hey, I know this page! I got the \"hottify female\" filter from it! :p
So did it by hand, eh? You\'re good. I tried stuff like that with the chrome filter and lassoing the different areas, but my success was mixed at best...
Did I ever tell you you\'re my personal hero? :D

Oh, by the way, I got the mail about right but then effed the sword up. I think I\'ll have to download the \"Instant blending on tangible object\" filter from the site....
