So you all have helped me with music, movies and books (I\'m blowing through music at an alarming rate but the books and movies have hardly been touched yet. Plan on getting to Indy films soon but I have so much to do around the house and music is easy to have on in the background).

Even though I\'m on a diet I figured I\'d ask for recipes now. What are your favorite foods that you think I should try. My diet runs in 28 day intervals. Any days left at the end of the month are mine to do with as I please. Last month I wasted those days eating mundane things I didn\'t really enjoy. I don\'t want that to happen again because now I\'m having a hard time sticking to my diet because I have nothing to look forward to at the end of the month. So please please please give me some wonderful ideas so I have something to look forward to this month!

Just so you know, I already know I like Japanese food espesially sushi and sashimi. I also love lamb. But anything ELSE that you want to suggest would be wonderful. Thanks!

Quick Currie Recipe.

This is as easy as making spaghetti. Take one pound of chicken breast, cut into cubes, and brown in a pan. When mostly cooked, add a half can of coconut milk, and a quarter can (it comes in 2 oz cans) of Masaman curry paste. Bring to a boil. Add one chopped onion, and boil until thick enough that running a spoon quickly through the curry leaves a temporary \"empty\" space on the pan (you\'re just thickening it up a bit, you can adjust to taste). Serve over rice. Quick, easy, frickin fantastic.

Do you have a BBQ? You should, everyone should (Said the butcher)!

Scott Radom\'s Rock \'n Roll Ribeye Steak!

Get a heavily marbled AAA Ribeye steak cut to about an inch. Ask if they\'ve got anything aged about 28 days. If it\'s from western Canada you\'re really in luck. Don\'t think you\'re being a pain in the ass butchers love when people ask for the good stuff....

The seasoning for the steak is less important and more up to individual tastes then the quality of the cut. Before I put it on tghe grill I typically use a mix of cracked black pepper and very little sea salt. Not too much of either.

Heat your BBQ up really well. Flames on high for about 5-10 minutes, whatever it takes to get your BBQ up to temp. Put the steak on whil the flame is high and the temp is still high and then immediately close the lid and reduce the temperature down to just slightly above the minimum setting.

For a med steak you want to cook for about about 7minutes-ish. This is about the length of Mettalica\'s \"One\" so you can always listen to that or play it on Guitar hero before you flip the steak.

Flip the steak and feel free to add any kind of sauce to it that you like. I prefer a nice high quality BBQ sauce. Let cook for about another 7 minutes, like about the time it takes to listen to Zeppelin\'s \"Kashmir\" and then you\'re done.

If you go for side dishes and stuff like -ugh- Salad then you\'re on your own. For best results eat the steak with the finest bottle of cheap union made beer (go Molson, GO!).

Enjoy, or as the french say, \"le Enjoy\"!

I think Liz is writing a book :p

Im not much of a cook, but there\'s nothing better than some fresh baked multi-grain bread with a little Mayo, some smoked Turkey or Ham with some lettuce, tomato and a little red Onion. Add some Kettel chips and a Ice cold Coke and your set!

Search up the old CMON cook book. A lot of people submitted recipes. I tried making a bunch of them. Most turned our pretty well.

Here\'s one of my favorites. I actually took a picture of it a few months back for a different forum. Doesn\'t it look delicious? :D

soup.jpg

I love soups. They are pretty healthy too (as long as you don\'t overdo the salt!) :D I like combining different ingredients and seeing what I come up with.

Here\'s the recipe I really like:
A pound or two of beef roast (chicken works great too). I like to cook it first, because I have a bad habit of tasting the soup before it\'s done, so I don\'t want to eat raw meat! I just cook it quickly in a pan with a little oil, pepper, and soy sauce and cover it so that the steam stays inside and keeps it moist, then I dice it up into large cubes.

Place the beef in a crock pot.

Add chopped potatoes, celery, carrots, mushrooms (I love canned mushrooms, so I use two of the small cans), half an onion (I don\'t like onions much, so only half for me) and two cans of beef broth.

Then I add plenty of chopped garlic, black pepper, some salt, soy sauce, basil and parsley. Then I add some water to top off the pot.

Cook on high for 3 or 4 hours, or cook on low for maybe 6 hours. When the potatoes are done then you know the soup is ready.

Gosh, all this talk about soup makes me want it again. I\'ll have to make a big pot of it on Monday :) Best thing is, you can make the whole pot of soup for about $10-$15, and that will last me a week :D

Sorry for the double post, but forgot to mention tortilla chips! The local grocery stores here sell packs of 20 or 30 corn tortillas for $1. I just use a pizza cutter to slice them into fourths, then fry 5-10 of the pieces at a time in some cooking oil in a large pan.

The lower the heat, the better. If it\'s too hot the chips will be browned but still soggy on the inside. You want to cook them longer that way they dry out more.

Place them on a wire cooling rack with some paper towels underneath (to catch the oil drippings). Add salt to taste (I love salt, so I use plenty!).

There\'s not much better than some chunky salsa and hot, fresh tortilla chips for dipping. Oh my gosh they are so amazing when they are fresh. They make Fritos taste like dog food.

Well, theres always one of my comfort foods -

Mjuddra (not sure on the spelling)

One onion diced (about the size of your fist)
One cup lentils
One cup rice
Enough oil (preferably extra virgin olive oil) to cover the bottom of the pot

Brown the onion until clear in the olive oil

Bring to boil, and then let cook until the rice and the lentils are done.

I\'m not the biggest cook but the main food i love is mexican.

So chilli, tacos, fajitas and enchiladas are great. Most come in kits as well which make them easy to do and can vary with meat to keep them different. Enchiladas i would recommend, some tortilla wraps, brown some chicken mix up a tomato sauce put in the wrap, pour some more sauce on to the tortilla add some grated cheese then oven till crisp.

And if your not the biggest mexican fan, indian food is my next fave, most recipes are easily available and again if you dont wana make one from scratch sauce is available ready made. Add some pakora and onion bhaji\'s a naan an your good.

Last thing italian dishes, some pasta some cream a little bacon and you have a carbonara, or tomato puree some chopped tomato\'s a little basil and some grated cheese.

right im off to make some dinner, starved now

im a veggie but i do make pretty good stuffed aubergines. i am aware that a lot of these vegetables have different names in america so you might have to do some research but here goes.

1 large aubergine
1 onion
1 clove of garlic(crushed)
1 courgette
1 bell pepper (red, yellow or orange, not green)
1 slice of bread
mushrooms
half a can of chopped tomatos
mixed herbs
(cashew nuts and pumpkin seeds can be added)
grated cheese.

cut the aubergine in half and then core out the centre leaving the shell no more then a cm thick, chop the aubergine flesh and place in a pan but put the two aubergine shell halves open side up in an oven dish (make sure its got sides higher then the aubergine shells)
chop the onion, mushrooms, courgette, peppers and whateve other vegetables you wish to use (i believe cooked sausages can be added too) and fry them until the veggies are softened. tear the bread into little pieces and add to the mixture, add the nuts, herbs, chopped tomatos and stir well until everything is well mixed then spoon this mixture into the aubergine shells and sprinkle generously with grated cheese and put in the oven (at about 180 degrees) for about 25-30 mins until the cheese has browned.
serve with rice.

ive even had meat eaters loving this recipe before.

oh another one/

a fillet of salmon
a piece of white bread torn into bread crumbs
mixed herbs
a crushed clove of garlic
butter.

it depends how much salmon you have for this how much butter you need but a spoonfull is usually enough.
melt the butter in a saucepan and add the crushed garlic and herbs, let it simmer for a minute or two before placing the salmon into it so that its top surface has the butter and herbs on it then place it into an oven dish. Then add the breadcrumbs to the remaining butter and herbs and stir around with your fingers until the breadcrumbs have soaked up all the butter before putting the breadcrumbs on top of the salmon.
bake in the oven for about 25-30 mins at 200 degrees.
it goes well with carrots and parsnips chopped into slices and baked in a dish with margerine or butter for about half an hour or until they are looking a little crispy on some of the edges.

cous cous goes well with it too as does mashed potato.

Alex\'s stir fry:

(serves two)

Smallish onion (white)
One big carrot
Handfull of mushrooms
Smallish chilli ( leave out if you dont like it hot)
One red pepper (not chilli)
Either one peice of chicken breast each or the same sized amount of pork.
Teriaki sauce
Fish sauce
Soy Sauce
Noodles. ( boiling variety)
Cooking oil (i recommend sesame)
Frying pan
Pan for noodles.

Heat a splash of oil into the frying pan and when it gets hot fry the onions a little so they are soft and starting to brown. Throw in all the other veg after you have chopped em up, fry for a few mins untill they are all warmed through. Move the veg to the side of the pan, put a splash of each sauce in and some more oil and fry the meat, once the meat has soaked up the sauce add some more and put some on the veg too. Once the meat has carmaelised on the outside turn the heat down and cook the noodles (instructions on side of packet), finally drain the noodles and quickly wack the heat up on the veg and meat to get it hot. Serve.

Any ice cold drink is good with this.

Alex
