Well I guess it was only a matter of time here in the UK before some money grabbing Richard Cranium came up with THIS IDEA

I am against the TV licence over here as it is because of the crap repeats and lack of new programs the BBC force on you but this is taking it a bit far now that people are complaining bitterely about TV licences they are talking of this as a replacement, god they\'ll make a bloody fortune

What really gets me is not that many people watch BBC in the first place the other companies make their money and support themselves through advertising and or pay as you view but we have to pay £126.50 for a colour TV licence to a company that produces crap. Add to this cost the price for a Satelite subscription and it soon rockets out of proportion I don\'t object to a Sky subscription I watch the History Channel and a few others but I rarely watch BBC but if you don\'t have a licence and you get caught it\'s over £1000 fine which is money I would rather spend on mini\'s than give to them, the government take enough of us in taxes each year as it is and don\'t give anything back for it. Hell I even get taxed when I am out of the country for over six months and can\'t claim it back work that one out

I\'ll put my hand up and say BBC is the best in the business. BBC 1, 3 and 4 ain\'t bad, and the stuff on BBC2 is marvellous. It\'s the only intelligent TV on terrestrial! The BBC - full of tits though it be - is the best programmer in the UK by a country mile.

On the PC licence thing, if it\'s a catch-all TV/PC affair I see no problem with it. At least we\'ll get some decent regulation out of it.

Thing is, I like big companies to hold my hand.

Man, it\'s all so complex! We pay a TV licence that covers the BBC (British Broadcasting Corp. There are other terrestrial channels but they are commercial. No adverts on BBC. We still pay subscription on top for top-end satellite or cable. There are lots of free-view channels with digital now though.

I have nothing against paying taxes actually. I can however have some issues with how the money is used.

I think a PC tax would be a good idea.. if they then legalized exchanging movies and mp3 music!

The trouble is with the money grabbing government in this country they will not be content with having a catch all licence they will bring in the PC licence and then forget to stop charging you a TV licence as well.

The it is thought about a PC licence would not be a bad thing if the government actually did something for it such as stop spam but they don\'t even do that and I know for a fact that as soon as the colleges and schools/uni\'s go back in September I will once more be bombarded with porn and software offers that I do not want and cannot block because they use a different name each time. Now if the government stopped that then a PC licence night be easier to bare but only might. Afterall soon they are going to charge us toll for miles on the motorway on top of car tax massive fuel taxes and whatever and they wonder why the armed forces have a retention problem its because it costs us a bloody fortune to even think about coming home

Well it will only be a matter of time the last time the gov tried to put a hike on petrol there was protests and I seem to recall when I was a kid the BBC tried to make you have a licence for a radio in the house as at the time not a lot of people had TV\'s sopeople went and sat in their cars and listened to the radio, the soon shelved that idea

But yes I agree why should we support the BBC when other companies make it without help from taxation.

The PBC holds telethons and Fund-raisers to get money for their \'quality\' public television. The small pledges from regular people are just for show; it\'s guys like Microsogft, General Mills, and McDonalds that donate millions, and then get to right it all off on their taxes! You guys relly need to change your system!

Things can always be worse... the Germans should know:
-We get to pay, like, 16€ a month for 3 (read: three) channels on terrestrial (Two national ones and a regional one), or \"just\" 7€ if all you own is a radio (yes, the one in the car counts!). The only way you can get around is to prove that your TV has been \"fixed\" so you can\'t recieve (e.g. if it\'s only meant for Video/DVD playback)...
- Cable is some 10-15€ extra. In case you get sattelite, you only have the 16€ above.
- If you are a starving college student, or unemployed or stuff, you can reduce or null the amount you gotta pay.
- Oh, and sure enough, there are plans to start charging for every PC with online access (webradio, Internet TV, TV cards), \'cause they can\'t turn off the basic channels for an entire house, but only judge whether or not you have a TV/radio. Luckily, we don\'t have to let the bastards into our homes... :moon:
