Nurgle 40k using the cheapest mini's I can get my mitts on! WIP

Well I've finally joined, after stalking as a guest for some time looking for hints as I need them... so... erm... hello?

:D

Anyhoo, I've recently got back into the whole GW 40k cash machine, and in a bid to build an army on the cheap I've been scouring friend's attics/lofts/cellars/garages for their unwanted collections... positive results have ensued, including, but not limited to;
1. a small core of Marines (being painted in grey and bleached bone),
2. 2500-3000 pts of Eldar,
3. my finance becoming interested in the painting and modelling side of things and subsequently the gaming aspect... the downside to this; her claiming the entire Eldar force,
4. a silly number of Orks... of no interest,
5. a number of the old metal oop chaos marines, enough for a 1000pt Chaos Marine army... (I am fortunate that a few friends have done the same as me and resurrected an interest and between them bought the codex's I need, so I borrowed them)...

...and it's on the chaos note that I wanted your opinions and suggestions... apologies for taking a while to get to the point.

I've wanted to do a chaos army in either WFB or 40K since the last time I was gaming (15 years ago) and never did... it's difficult buying all new stuff when your 15 and don't get vast sums of pocket money or a paper round... so fast forward to today I have 3 useable armies and the choice of chaos power to pick and game.
Nurgle... purely because I wanted an excuse to play with greenstuff, and I have.

The first metal terminator was a test base (stupidly really, I really should have practised techniques on the ork models that I have no intent of using, but... meh)... warning I'm no pro when it comes to photographing minis so don't expect to much, nor am I an award winning painter, with that in mind, onto the pics;

The first of the Nurgle Terminators, unfortunately I didn't take any pre-painted greenstuff pictures, but I have a number to take and a few to add now...

I've moved forward quite a bit with this one... the pics up are an early stage of greenstuff and I did another whilst waiting for the GS to being curing...

The good guys...

My finance's Eldar (the first ever minis, I did the lightning on the Wraithlord, and the decals, I hate using and seeing transfers).

Nice work on the greenstuff! Did your missus paint the eldar?
Also I would recommend reading the painting articles here, the techniques are explained well. The terms too, I had no idea what OSL/ NMM when I first started browsing.
Looks like your making a good start and welcome!

Thanks for compliments, I'll be uploading some more (as soon as I get some batteries for the camera ;) )... yes the missus painted the eldar, I did the lightning bolt on the wraithlord and the decals, thats all, all the blending and highlighting was her work.

Thanks for the welcome, I thinking I'm well outclassed here thou looking through some of the WIP threads... I mean wow! So believe me I'll be reading as many articles as I can get my eyes on, it's been a good 10 years since I last picked up the brushes and as you can tell I'm a bit rusty.

Welcome Scalpel & Finance, fun stuff there, bit of dust on that Eldar War walker thingy, be sure to get them clean before repainting! (Fairy Power Spray from the supermarket is great for stripping acrylic off old metal minis). Plenty of folk on here who've come back to it after an extended hiatus, takes a while to warm up but your work should come on in leaps and bounds if you stick with it.

Are you aware of the Sheffield Irregulars? I think they're still active. Meet up in one of the games shops (the one with lots of boardgames rather than the one with lots of minis) on Sundays, I think? Always good to paint with others so that you can pick up tips and share ideas. They've some rather good painters in their ranks too :D

Cheers, B.

Howdy howdy - welcome to the site :)

Nice work on those minis, both in terms of conversion and painting. I really like the blue on the eldar - both the colour choice and the blends are very nicely done. Old skool Eldah for da win! The greenstuff work is nice, too. You've obviously got the right idea when it comes to nurgle, so just keep at it and you'll find your sculpting (and painting) will get better and better. Not necessarily on every mini, of course, but over time you will see great improvements if you just keep churning out models. I was in a similar situation to yourself a few years ago. I had gamed/painted as a teenager, but then quit when I started uni, and didnt get back into until my mid twenties. It's a far better hobby as an adult, tbh. There's more cash around, and less need to go out every blinking weekend and get falling-down drunk (not saying I never do this, just, yknow, less than I used to.)

She has done a nice job on the eldar. It's nice to see bright themed models like those. Especially with the white highlights, they are striking. I can't wait to see the nurgle fellas painted.

Thanks all, your comments put a big silly grin on Emma's face and she passes on her thanks too...

But enough of that, pictures were promised and pictures shall be posted;

A little more progress on the Nurgle Termy Squad and the HQ unit, the lord has also had a banner added simply because I want to paint a banner :D... think it's an old Wolf rider one, but I can't be sure. I can be sure that it doubles the height of the mini, though *chuckles*...

Once again I thank you all for the positive comments;
BPI; got to say the word play got a chuckle from both of us, intended or not, and my location is wrong atm... facebook details I'm afraid, nevertheless thanks for the suggestion.
me_in_japan; I know not of this thing, what is this "drunk" of which you speak?... I'm from a little town which contained a massive array of things to do for teens and next to no pubs/drinking establishments... sorry got that in the wrong order... masses of pubs and a park... with swings... and nothing else really. I'd earn through the week and drink through the weekend. It's a minor miracle I actually bought and minis or that I was sober enough to hold a paint brush in my spare time. Now I have learned many things, chief amongst them is that I don't like hangovers.
Aesu; I've got myself a cheap airbrush so I may try a little airbrushing work on that banner :D

They are looking good! You definately have that gross/oozing in that Nurgle way down pat. It looks very fleshy and natural (in that gross Nurgle way) and I love that horn on his leg too, I can see that being part a very painful kick!
