Hello!

Since I have to put my Jackal Master WIP on hold I figure I would do one on the nurgle chariot I have to paint. Here is a picture of the whole thing.

chaos_wagen1_1.jpg

I am starting on the riders, then working my way to the horses and then the actual chariot last. Here is what I have of the first rider. I am just about finished with the green armor. I just have to clean up some areas and then I am going to start on the metallics.

Ooh, you\'re the chap who did the unit of Knights, I recognise that green! Very nice so far. Is it just me or do the sculpts all look like Khorne figures though? Do GW do any Nurgle Knights with the cracked armour with a maggot burrowing out any more? I expect to enjoy this thread  B.

They do look a bit Khorney :D And yes I am the guy that painted the nurgle knights. I wish I had taken some better pics to post in my gallery but oh well.

This mini is coming a bit slow because I have a bunch of real life stuff to do but I am going to have a few days coming up where I can paint 8 hours straight so I am hoping to have lots more pics and hopefully a finished mini.

In this next pic I have glazed over the metallics with brown ink, dark angels green, and black. I also decided to use some pigments on the blade. I am still figuring out how they work so it probably does not look right. I am also debating on whether to put blood splatter on the blade. My concern is that I did not put splatters on the knight\'s blades and I am worried they will look inconsistent...

Well I have filled in a couple of details like the eyes and the bags. The next pic after this one will be of the finished mini. Also I am thinking of doing a step by step of how I paint the green armor so you can see how it comes along. If interested let me know and I will do that.

+1 on the step by step!! I must say this is coming along great, is the chariot part of the commission army?
If it is than you must have one happy customer!

Yes this mini is for the same person. They are very happy with how everything has turned out so far. I wish I could paint an army for myself this well. I wanted to let everyone know that I will hold off on doing the green armor tutorial until I start painting the horses because the second rider is not a good model for the tutorial.

Here is the first finished rider. I am working on the step by step for the other rider. Turns out the mini is not too bad for a step by step. I should have the shading part done and posted soon followed by the highlighting.

Step by step part 1: Shading

Ok here is the shading for the second rider. Sorry if the pics are washed out I have to correct that when I do the highlighting, not sure what happened... The highlights will be in my next post.

This first picture just shows the base coat which is a mix of 50/50 catachan green and camo green.

SBS1.jpg

Once the base coat is done I then picked out areas that I wanted to have a darker look and base coated these areas with pure catachan green. I do this because it adds a nice aesthetic to the mini. Arrows indicate some of the areas I did this to.

SBS2.jpg

This next picture starts the general shading with pure catachan green. Areas that are less exposed to light from above and in some small cases areas that will help add some interest to the mini. About 2 parts water to one part paint. I also added a drop of brush on sealer from reaper as I find it helps keep the paint where I want it. If I do not do this the paint will look too streaky.

SBS3.jpg

I then shade with pure dark angels green. The mix is the same as the catachan meaning 2 parts water, 1 part paint, 1 drop brush on sealer. I highlighted the areas that I base coated with pure catachan the most since they will be much darker than other areas. The gauntlet shows off the shading the best I think.

SBS4.jpg

I then shaded with previous mix with a little liche purple added to it. Always trying to work deeper in the recesses and making sure that some of the previous shaded layers are showing through. I also just work the color until I reach an opaqueness that I am satisfied with.

SBS5.jpg

The last shade is that last mix with a little bit of black added. Again painted until I am satisfied with how it looks and also painted in a smaller area than the previous mix.

SBS6.jpg

Now that the shading is finished I will clean up some areas with the base coat that were hit by the shading that I did not mean to hit, like the upper calves. If you have any questions let me know. :) Highlighting coming soon :)

No idea how I\'ve managed to miss this up untill now!

Absolutely beautiful, nurgle is my favourite mark and it\'s very rare that I see a paintjob involving it which lives up to the idea I have of what it can look like in my head, looking forwards to more updates :D

Step by step part 2: Highlighting

Ok here are the highlights. Really simple stuff. Same consistency as the shading 2 parts water, 1 pat paint, 1 drop brush on sealer. The first highlight color is catachan green mixed with a bit of rotting flesh. Something like 2 part green and 1 part flesh. I tried to leave a bit of the base coat showing underneath.

SBS7.jpg

Next is the previous mix with another drop of rotting flesh added to it and some more water so the mix does not get too thick. Again I tried to focus on areas that were more exposed to top lighting and then some other areas that I thought some highlighting would add some interest to (such as the gauntlet).

SBS8.jpg

This last image is like three steps in one, sorry  I added some more rotting flesh to the previous mix and just painted it in some real small areas. After I had finished with this I went on to do some edge highlighting in certain areas with pure rotting flesh. Then when that was finished I cleaned up a bit using chaos black. Also during the whole highlighting phase, anytime that I felt unhappy with the transitions I would go back with my base color and brush over the areas where the transitions were not satisfactory. Just like a glaze it helps tone down the highlight and brighten the shade. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions :)

Sorry for the poor photo. The image was loaded to photobucket but I think they smooshed the image when I loaded it here.

Unfortunately I do not have any more weapons to paint. But to make it is pretty easy. It is a base coat of chainmail. Then I mixed up 50/50 brown ink and dark angels green. Then I added 3 drops of glaze medium and 2 drops of water. Then I just brushed this onto the metal areas trying to make the shading look like NMM. When I am happy with how opaque the glazes have become I add some black to the glaze mix and glaze over smaller areas of the metal. With the darker mixes I dip my brush in the glaze mix and then wipe the excess off on a paper towel so I can have full control over where the darker shades end up. With the beginning mix of brown ink and DAG I just washed it over the whole metal surface. Hope this helps and if you have any questions let me know :)

Also I want to apologize for my dog threads. I am very bad at picking up on subtle hints and pretty much need things spelled out for me and I learned that I was getting too crazy with the threads and beginning to act inappropriately. So I am sorry for the threads and will not post anymore :) Thank you for being patient with me and letting me realize my own mistakes. :)
