Object Light Sourcing?..I\'ll let you decide?

As the title implies I\'m after opinions on my first \"real\" attempt at OLS.
The minis is Sebastian the Grey Knight from Hasslefree,and bundles of character it has too.
So.What do you think????
I\'m not that sure myself.

i think you did very well! it\'s a very nice mini, full of character and painted well as it deserves!

i have just a couple of things to remark:
- i\'m not sure about the blade as in front and back pick it seems that the light hits both the upper parts of it... maybe one should be in shadow? i should have a lateral pic to see
-what about painting shadows on the base too? it\'d look even better!

anyway, great great job, much better than my light source experiment!

Nicely done I\'d say.

I think I would have added a little light to the base too and maybe just on the edge of the shoulder armour on the \'unlit\' side.

This is the next mini that I\'m going to paint too, so it\'s nice to see one finished so to speak!

Cheers guys thats what Im after.
The blade has a load of ambient light from the pic taking,and yes the base needs working on.
I think the main problem is I used real metals with washes so the metals are reflecting the ambient light too much.Nmm would have been better I think.

I think the lit parts of the mini are very convincing. I agree with beelzebrush. The knight shold cast a shadow on the base. I\'m currently waiting for this mini from CMON shop and this is great inspiration for me.

I like it a lot! Maybe there could be a little more contrast between the light and dark parts of the mini, but it\'s a very very nice mini you have there!

This guy reminds me of the watchman in Disney\'s Haunted House ride- but with armor..

Zo, my only comments are to make certain areas seem \"darker\" than others in comparison. For instance, there\'s not that much difference from one side of the face to the other, I\'m not saying it has to be black, but the middle of the face is where most of the light would be stopping. Once agin, Great jorb!

nice. loads of character. i would suggest making the dark side a little darker for contrast but other than that, it is really well done

That\'s quite nice indeed. Nice and bright light effect, especially over the metals. You say you washed it to get that... How many layers did it take to build that it up to that level of lighting?

I like the base, but I am not a fan of painted on stones. Next time go the extra mile an sculpt the stones out of green stuff. Also his right shoulder looks a little to dark to me. almost like its burnt. I think it needs just a bit of colour. Only on the front though, the back looks spot on.

That miniature is really really nice. I do think it could be improved a bit with more defination on the base but thats about it to my eyes. The stones look alittle flat compared to the mini.

Noooo! Someone has to do real metallics with OLS! Plus I think it turned out okay. I would fix the sword blade as has been suggested, also make his unlit right arm darker on the back. His face is fine, you don\'t want to ruin it, and there would be some light reflecting off walls etc. to light the parts of him that are not in line with the torch.

Thanks for the response.
Remember its a quick pic with a lot of outside light interfearence.I took a lot of shots and this was the best trade without farting around in photoshop.
An example is the blade on the front view is actually boltgun,it shows up a load brighter.Same with the left side of the face.Its much darker than shown.Looks like Im going to have problems with the final pics.
Advice anyone??
I will certainly touch up the base with washes and shadows.It was going on a Groundforge base to begin with so I might go back to that but seeing as its going to be mainly unseen I thought it was a waste.

The top half is perfect, but I think the legs are too coloured, especially the bottom half of the kneecaps. I would glaze over with black (or other dark colour, just to tone these areas down.

Generally though its awesome stuff.

Well i like the base lighting, but it would stand out better if the rest of the mini was darker maybe.....black ink?

hmm...

I don\'t know why, but on the monitor I am currently using, the pic is so dark that I cannot properly see all the details...

Anyone else having this trouble?

I will reserve my vote and comment until I can view it from a different monitor.

Good point.
Its a very dark paintjob and I tried to limit the outside lighting,and its on a black background.
Hmm the centre of the torch is pure white,so I reckon if you adjust to that you should have what I have and you have my assurances that whats on my monitor looks about right against the mini.

The pic is very dark, but I think it really helps bring out the OSL, great stuff!
