Object Oriented Painting...

hi all, firstly, welcome meself back. :D

actually got a question to all astute painters and collectors and posters...whatever...

how the heck do you paint an object within a clear crystal encasement? be it an object encased in ice, or an object within a gem, or an object flared within glass.

a step-by-step guide preferred with images...or...
a theory on how it\'s done...or...
a direction to some previous postings...or...
a link to an url with a tutorial.

got me stubbed for a while and stuck on a particular mini piece for a long while...irritating...

thanx in advance!

did I hear the squeak of a little mouse?!!

First of all welcome back!! The forums just aren\'t the same without you!!

Your question is very tough.

Chrispy has done up a very nice tutorial

http://www.coolminiornot.com/go.php?go=articlephp&aid=200

On page two, he does discuss some painting obects through Ice. He has a very good example (as does SaxonAngel)

This isn\'t exactly what you are after, but it does seem close.

Somebody smarter will no doubt be along shortly, but I thought I would put in my 2 cents!!

ZaPhod had a nice set of diablo style flasks on a mini a while back. Plus his tutorial at his site on the Jade Princess is pretty cool, but not exactly what you are after.
Who did the transparent sword blade?

I remember being impressed by these when I saw them:

cube 1

cube 2

the second one contains links to some how to articles.

There is also a diarama of high elves in ice somewhere her but I can\'t find it and don\'t remember the painter!

cheers!

Yeah, just like I said in the gem article, it gets complicated when there are a lot of surfaces and it is freestanding, thus a crystal or something should be attached to something so you cannot view it all the way around.

yeah I agree,,if its just say a cube then u could try painting whatever u got then casting clear resin around it.
if its a solid \"cube\" that has to be painted like theres something inside then youre only gonna be able to do it realistically from one point of view

hmm...finn17, chrispy, frenchkid, dragonreach, sturmhalo, vincegamer,...many many many more...HEY!!!

ahem...okie, any more ideas for performing this operation?

it\'s not physically encasing an object within another but trying to use paint to emulate a similar effect...okie an eg.

a dark and musty room...scent of spices and herbs permeates the air....a wizard in the middle of this room peering into a crystal ball...swirling mist coiled about the ball as images danced within...then suddenly, the moving images flashes in and out and finally rested on a tiara (okie, this wizard wants to steal the Miss World tiara...lol)...barking a single word of command, the wizard halted that image and the swirling mist died...without turning around, the wizard picked up the crystal ball in his hand and stretched it behind him...\"Take this crystal ball, it\'ll lead you to the tiara!\"...a figure clothed in black peeled away from the shadows...reaching out a white sickly hand showing early signs of rot and decay (that is actually MJ - the wizard promised him perfect makeover into diana ross if he performs this task), he took the ball from the wizard and in a blink of an eye and a grab of his crotch, the ball disappeared within his cloak and he melted back into the shadows...sensing that he is finally alone, the wizard pulled back his hood to reveal an ugly face of a woman. \"Finally, the Miss World title is MINE!!!\" Muhahaha....

PS: okie okie...stupid story...but it\'s like the image of a tiara trapped within the crystal ball. :)

You\'re sure it was HIS crotch he was grabbing???

You paint a very vivid picture there mouse. I am surprised we haven\'t seen something like this painted inside a crystal ball. Perhaps you will be the first!

Hi to you mouse !! Good to have you back on the forum :D Has for that impossible painting task of yours I really don\'t see how you could make it work. In a crystall ball there\'s a different view for every angle from witch you view the crystall ball, therfor has mention aboved I think that you could only make this work from one point of view. Then again I never actually tried, and not beeing a fan of miss Irma\'s voyance I reallly haven\'t been looking in that mutch crystall balls latelly :p:D

I recently saw some small - about 1cm across glass balls used in a shop for decoration (in a wine glass) - as we are now well into the Xmas build up you might be able to get something like that and then model - epic scale? a scene inside?

An alternative if you could settle for a cloudy undefined scene might be to use a carefully selected glass marble of an appropriate size.:)

it\'s alrite...

...i gave up the idea of doing it...just swirl it in a mist of greyish blue and pretend that there\'s an image within....

\"Where\'s the image within the crystal ball!!??\"
\"There!\"
\"Where?\"
\"There!!! You du-fu-zoid!!\"
\"I see nothing!!!\"
\"Oh...i forgot, you ain\'t psychic...\"
