Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for painting a blue object source lightning effect on a red surface. It is my understanding that object source lightning is better on a darker (grey?) surface. Just wanted to see if anyone has done blue over red and if the effect was worthwhile. Thanks!

Usually, a blue light source blends from blue to white. But given that it's landing on a red surface, you might want to feather out to a purple edge. (basic color theory red+blue=purple) Though, it may well depend on your specific model. In the case of, let's say, a wizard holding a ball of energy,.. the white would end up in the ball in his hand, and it would then feather out to the darker/cooler colors as it gets further from the center point.

The white in the source of light should not transfer to the red surface. Like said above, use purple. I'd use purple with A TOUCH of white. You want to get the purple to be lighter than the surrounding area since it is being lit up. Keep the purple on the warm side - violet, more dull a bit than straight violet and simply blend it to the surrounding red. One cool trick is to make the paint job on the entire fig just a bit on the dark side, just a bit. Then you will get a much greater contrast with the light source thus 'more light'. Good luck.
